Been shopping

Post by icrman »

Looking for an engine for the wifes car.
I don't want it sitting while I'm overhauling hers.
So I went to a cheapy wreaking yard this last weekend and took one out. Should have pulled the pan there. Got it home and its full of metal. Not a good candidate. Today I call around.
Jasper gets $4000 plus for an EJ22 reman. And so far the lowest is $695 from a Japan importer. So how well do they take care of their engines in Japan since they know they have to be out of the car in 30 to 40 thousand miles? Any ideas where to find something?
I can't see spending $700 for something I'm still gona take apart and put that amount plus into parts.

Most of the JDM EJ22E's that I have seen come in good condition...one place that I like to deal with in particular sells only very high quality JDM engines, that I won't hesitate a second to put in a car...

I would like to know what they have to pay for those JDM engines?

That place listed it for $950 , I can get one locally for $695 or so.
I'm guessing they pay maybe $250 or so for them, rest is greed tax I mean profit.

But I could also spend that same money on parts and have something I know has good bearings, new seals, fresh valve faces and seats and properly sealed. Gosh the one I have runs great, it just leaks like crazy.
With the high miles and since it has to be removed, it either needs replacement or overhaul.

My local u-pull-it sells all 4cyl motors for $68 you just have to make sure the engine comes out of a car that was wrecked (so you know it was running before it got to the yard).

Is there no place like that in your area?
