CEL 24 - Idle air controller valve?

Post by Jutboy »

My book says CEL 24 is the air control valve but I'm assuming its talking about the IAC which I just cleaned.

Quickly, I cleaned it with brake fluid and when I tried to blow it out nothing came out the PCV. Anyway I let it sit for 20 minutes so it would evaporate, the IAC turned much better.

I assume the CEL is because I didn't mark the exact location it was in and guessed at it.

I assume I just have to adjust its position a little by little on a warm engine but wanted to make sure it wasn't something else.

Thanks - Justin

I also cleaned my IAC with brake cleaner. I did mark the exact location, but I still get a returning CEL.

Also it is sometimes difficult to start the engine when it's cold. Repeated cranking throws CEL for the IAC and the starter switch.

Looks like we're on our own...I think we should both make some minor adjustments to it and see if it can disappear.

Please keep in contact with me about your success.

I think I came across some other threads where others had similar IAC problems.

My CEL only comes back when I try to start it cold.

After you clear the codes, what is the car doing when your CEL comes back?

I'm getting IAC and knock sensor.

For me it pops up at random times but my guess is that the IAC only shows up when being used (which is only once the coolant reaches a "warm" temperature - I'm not sure about this so don't quote me) and the knock sensor is the rest of time.

I have always had a pretty rough idle (which is why I cleaned the IAC in the first place) so I haven't really noticed any change in the driveability.

I drove normally for a week with the CEL on. Then I cleared the codes yesterday by removing the ECU fuse for a while. It started this morning and so far it hasn't thrown another CEL. *fingers crossed*

I also have an intermittent rough idle. A jab of throttle will usually put the idle back to normal.
