Subwoofer randomly blew fuse?

Post by n2x4 »

Hey guys,

I was listening to the radio at normal volume, when all of a sudden I lost my bass. My subwoofer cut off. When I got home, I took a look at things and saw the red light on the amp. I turned the car off and took out the key and pulled the 15A fuse from the amp. It was blown. I thought that was random, as it happened after I had been listening to music for 20 minutes. I went and checked the grounds, everything was ok. I went to put in a new fuse, and just as it made contact, it blew as well.

What happened all of a sudden that's killing my fuses (and luckily nothing else)??

Check the Positives as well as the grounds.

May be time for a new amp.

Unhook your speaker wires, and RCA's for good measure, and replace the fuse. It could be your speaker wires shorted together, or your sub's voice coil shorted. Most amps will go into protection if this happens, but it is worth looking into.

Quick update,

Borrowed an amp from a friend just to check if it would work again and got nothing.

Amp powers up, but I get nothing from the sub.

Must be fried?

I guess that's what I get for a Visonik sub and amp package. I just wanted a little thump (nothing you can hear outside the car) and thought that would deliver. Well it did but it looks to have only lasted 6 months.
