Link ECU and JC Sports Torque Chip

Post by William D. Robinson »

Does anyone know about the Link programable ECU for a USA Legacy Turbo? My son says that his budddies in UK and OZ love theirs and that it is ultimately cheaper and way better than trying to coordinate a bunch of aftermatket ECU add-ons.

I talked to Joel @ JC Sports the other day and he said that they sell a "Torque Chip" for my ar for a mere $249 and it works wonders. He said it just splices into the wiring harness, but their website says it requires an experienced solderer. I have been burned serving as a guinea pig for JC Sports UCU upgrades before, so I'm leary of these birds. Perhaps they're smoking a better grade odf crack now and it would be okay. Any opinions from ayone else?

Link ECU and JC Sports Torque Chip

Post by Rod Grosvenor »

Bill-I`m running one of their torque chips on my `92 NA legacy & it has made a difference. Adding headers & the MSD DIS-2 also gave large gains. I don`t know how much you`ll gain with a turbo, but I`m happy. I drove an automatic WRX today & found if you want any response below 1500-2000 rpm, you`ll probably want a 5-speed. BTW, when it spools up it`s incredible what 2.0 liters can feel like. I limped home in my NA knowing more mods are in the near future as I want to go like that little buggar! Hope this helps-AZ. ROD

Link ECU and JC Sports Torque Chip

Post by daniel.wilson@db.co.nz »

Yes a link computer would be the best bet, I have seen plently of
these companies offering sports chips but when you look at them on a
dyno they don't make hardly any difference and in some cases perform
worse than the standard computer. Don't get me wrong some of these do
work wonders but for a little bit extra you can get a computer tuned
for YOUR car not someone elses.

The key thing to remember that these after market chips are less
adjusting than the standard computer, which is why they appear to be
more powerful. A standard computer if you drive it slowly it will
adjust for economy if you thrash it it will adjust more for
perfomance. After market chips start somewhere in between economy and
performance.

I am not too sure about the wiring on an American Legacy/WRX but if
it is the same as the NZ or Australian you should look at a Possum
Borne Link which plugs into the standard wiring, the only thing it
would need tuning. Brett would that work on an American car do you
know?

Link ECU and JC Sports Torque Chip

Post by acroxford@hypermall.net »

I am sure the Link ECU would be able to do more but I do have a JC
Sports chip and it does work and considerably better than one I got
from Superchips a few years back it was one that performed worse and
an even higher price. This one seems to help mostly in the mid range I
did try to time it and would say that 0 to 60 probably .1-.2 sec
average on many runs and it does run better overall. Does the Link
still retain the learning features of the stock unit ?

Link ECU and JC Sports Torque Chip

No not really, but it depends on what you actually want, you can buy
a programming computer for them, which you could change the mapping
as you wish.
