Error code/diagnostic help, am I doing this right?
Hi all, last weekend I get a check engine light and boost drops back to
5.5psi MAX (I normally run 12psi with a home made boost controller). I
checked the error codes and came up with:
44 - duty solenoid valve
35 - canister purge solenoid valve
24 - air control valve (just replaced this one less than a year ago)
I have had all of these for some time, car ran fine until this one showed
up:
23 - air flow sensor
I reset the computer by disconnecting the both the negative AND positive
battery cables and let the car sit overnight (is this the correct method?)
Drive the car to work and home (100mi) and checked the error codes again,
same thing.
According to my air/fuel ratio meter the ECU is still operating the same as
before the problem, ie: it is not running full rich in "limp" mode, the AF
ratio appears to be normal.
Question: will cleaning the air flow sensor help? What can I use to safetly
clean it?
Worst of all, I have a TSD rally this Saturday, my navigator is driving down
from Detroit (9hrs) he is currently 6 points ahead in the points standing
and the second place person is driving down from Detroit so we need to do
good. I even bought a set of used Michelin rally tires to run the
event!!!!!

Well to reset the computer. You did right, except you need to let the computer relearn some stuff. After you have had the battery disconnected for hour or so. Reconnect, Turn accessories off. Start the car, Do NOT touch the throttle. Just let it idle for about 10-15 min, until the car warms up. Then turn the key to the off position, and that should take care of relearning stuff.
There is a way to do an active diagnostic. The instructions are on my site. www.personal.psu.edu/jcc189/subaru/subaru.html I think dave may have them on his, cause he hated my blue text so much...

But you may want to try that also, see what you come up with.

techniques, One of the should be for your model of car.
I wouldn't try to clean the airflow meter.

Rod is right, just reseting the ECU does not do anything you need to
re-program the ECU before the memory is reset.

What do you mean? Nothing's showing up? how about now?
Only thing I could think of is me using html. However others use that format when sending and it shows up fine.

Thanks for the info! I noticed that the same codes kept returning after
disconnecting the battery and figured something was amiss.
I also recently installed an Autometer air/fuel ratio gauge. I mention this
because last weekend it stopped operating (later found to be a bad ground)
as did I developed my current problem. Could these be related?

Error code/diagnostic help, am I doing this right?
Can it be cleaned with contact cleaner? (or any spirit cleaner) that
was what I was going to suggest, but thought it was safer to say not
to.
