Question for Anyone
Do you mean open or closed Deck ? As far as I know all N/A engines are
open deck and all turbo motors are closed deck as the casting is more
expensive but stronger on the closed deck.

Question for Anyone
I believe that closed deck stopped in the mid-90s, but may have and still be
retained for the later STI, type RA, etc.
Certainly the majority of late model turbos have been open deck since then.

Question for Anyone
Thanks for that,
All I know they are open deck on most Impreza's and the new twin
turbo RSK B4 and GTB are open deck.

Question for Anyone
I have done more investigation and have found that all 1989 legacy's
have a closed deck, in 1990 there was a mix of open and closed.

Question for anyone
Boost and timing? A few years ago I set out to build what I thought
would be the end all in boost controllers. This one had a series of
LEDs on the front that indicated the max boost allowed. This setting
would remain unless changed manually or it would lower the boost
setting by one Lb and indicate that with a flashing LED when it
detected a knock sensor signal and again when after a set amount of
time the knock signal appeared again and would in theory do so before
the timing was retarded. I thought that it would be preferable to
leave the timing alone as I think that when it is retarded it does so
by a bit more than a few degrees. So the question is what is
prefered
a loss 1 lb boost or a few degrees of timing ? I would like an
opinion
as I have some $$ tied up in parts for this project.

Question for anyone
In my humble opinion, it would be preferable to lower the boost, and not
retard the timing. I am running higher boost and I can tell when the knock
sensor picks up something. The car runs badly until I reset the ECU or about
1 tankfull of gas, whichever comes first. If you get this boost controller
perfected,I would buy one.BillC----- Original Message -----
