Hmmm... Suspension Crossroads...

Post by smh0101 »

Im not sure what I want to do right now...

Go with on-road slammed handling monster....

Or

Go with off-road-snow luvin-jump-clearin- Beast...

I think I have a good idea of what to go with for on-road lowered street car...

But what about an off-road (yet daily driver) setup?

Right now I have 03 WRX Gr2s and stock wrx springs with camber bolts...

I prefer to not go coilovers because of cost.

So what is a good off-road set-up?

And which should I do... On-road or Off-road...

Keep in mind I am North of Portland OR and like to snowboard...

I didnt vote because I think you sould do both.

1. Keep the normal height springs

2. Get AGX struts so they can be adjusted for summer/winter

3. Two sets of wheels
3A. One set of lightweight (perhaps 02WRX)with slightly shorter than stock sticky summer tires. This will lower the car slightly and give it better mechanical advantage and therefore better accelleration

3b. Some 15 inch Forester steelies with TALL snow tires. This will give you great winter traction and more ground clearance

4. Nice sway bars

Stiffness. Height comes from the springs.

There are a lot that do that...

ASC_UP: I personally used Whiteline but if you are going to drive off the pavement I wouldnt lower it with springs, instead lower it with tires.

i wasn't planning on any offroading so whiteline is what i was thinking to. i'm not trying to hijack spencer's thread, but what application would the springs need to be for?

STi setup is your answer. Near stock height, possibly a touch taller. Handles wicked on the pavement with sway bars. Handles big jumps with no sweat and can go through rough stuff no prob.

I've been running it for 3 years. I hit up track days at roadtracks during the summer and drive through snow drifts during the winter.
