Post by sublunacy »

ive been messin about for DAYS Ive got a nice cable i assume it works
when i plug it to the Puters!
ive been getting the IBM runnaround just when i think ive got the files i need
i got a friend to try for an hour or too aswell.
i think i got it to boot straight from bootdisc yesterday, but when i hit the enter button it flipped to the next screen wich was scrambled.javascript:emoticon('')

I don't understand -- you're getting the info screen but after that the screen is scrambled? It sounds like the file is corrupted on the disk. Can you try writing the boot disk image to a different diskette?

What kind of laptop are you using exactly?

Yea Vikash this program is amazing im so happy merry xmas to you!

Ya about the scramble part?? i think thats because im forcing programs to do things they werent meant to do...
Compaq nx9010 pentium rig,
I have made many discs, windows xp
maybe i just need someone with better computer skills!!

girlfriend will be back from vacation in a week

Vikash it sounds simple i guess

. just copy .ISO folder
onto CD as the image you provided. slid in disk, turn on computer!
BUT windows XP starts.

.COM folder is for floppy drives

.TRZ folder is custom zipped archive type

all the information is on the disc already as a complete image, yes.
im going to mess around some more
I thought i could do this ?????
i will check bios again

Merry Christmas to you too!

You can't just copy the ISO file into a folder on the CD. The ISO file is a CD image that needs to be written to the CD in a special way.

Maybe try using a piece of software called ISO Recorder:

Let me know if it works, because then I'll add that link to the scan tool's web page.

yeah for what it's worth you're essentially "burning" the image to the disk using that program, kinda like burning mp3s to a cd.

It sounds like your laptop doesn't have a truly CGA-compatible display. After the info screen, the program switches to 40x25 text mode.

If you press L instead of Enter, does it properly display the license info?

I can make a quick-hack version for you that will run in 80x25 text mode. Things will be in the wrong place on the screen but it should be somewhat usable. PM me your email address.

Stupid Compaq... You should complain to them for lying when they sold you the computer.

SB to DB9 serial port converters are on the net for fairly cheap.
radio shack has them.

you can always build one if it means that much,

i'd just buy the usb to serial adapter......
and same with the parallel, although it might be hard finding one that will work :?

the other thread said that you can't use a converter, I already asked.
I got a laptop specifically for this. tonight I pick up the printer cable.
though I will be making my own connector for the diag port, I'm too cheap to buy the harness needed

OK, I got the printer cable. is there any color coding standard that the inside wires of the cable would use?

Most x86 laptops still have either a serial or parallel port on the port expander or docking station.

you can usually pick up a free laptop that will work if you watch freecycle or post a wanted on it.
that's how I got mine and a couple of parallel cables so far.
just an FYI not all parallel cables are easy for this, the first one i got had one of those plastic connectors which encased the wires in a rubber goo that I couldn't get off without damaging the wires.
