SWEET VICTORY IS MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by TheSubaruJunkie »

Finally got the m*therf*cker out of there! I didnt touch it yesterday. I woke up with a splitting headache and ended up spending most the day in bed. But I woke up this morning determined to get the motor out, that way I can spend tomorrow tearing it down and getting it ready to go back together.

Other than the bottom 2 bolts that hold the motor to the tranny, the rest was pretty basic. I just hope I can get everything back together. Im planning on installing the intake manifold with the motor out of the car, and im worried about getting the flex plate bolted back to the torque converter when everything is said and done. Im sure it will be a pain in the ass, but that wont be as difficult as locating all the broken plastic T's that i destroyed trying to remove the PCV system.

Oh, and once I lifted the motor... this puppy fell out:

Thats my engine mount :( Looks like Im going to need a couple of them. I hear STi stuff works right? Can anyone point me in the right direction on locating some of those?

They usually do that. STI ones do work.

Jamie at Subarugenuineparts can get you the right mounts. Same goes for the PCV parts and anything else that might need replacing.

Get all three for best results.

Note that it will get you a noticeable increase in NVH, but that's just the turney bits letting you know they're there.

H=harmonics which could seem harsh, I guess. Harmonics is correct, mechanical engineers?

If you get STI mounts, you will HAVE to cut the nubs off, or redrill the stock holes, as they are not the same dimensions. I learned this the hard way.....

After seeing what they want for STi mounts, I think i'll stick with stock. Or maybe someones left over WRX mounts.

in the future, it's easier to pull the engine with the intake manifold on and disassemble the PCV system and other hoses while it's in the stand (since you can get to everything easier) but you know this :)

Well, i pulled the intake manifold to make it easier to get to the flexplate bolts. It was cake with the manifold gone, i can see how it will be a pain in the ass to bolt the flex plate to the TC once everything is assembled.

+1 on leaving it together before pulling. I wish I could remember how I got to the flexplate bolts on the parts car I had, but I didn't have any trouble pulling the engine with everything together.

I don't think I had an issue with my mounts either, but it's possible I may have had to open up a couple holes in the mount and just don't remember. If I did, it must have been a simple operation since I tend to remember things that piss me off.

Yeah....if you buy the STi hardened mounts, everything should bolt in fine.

If you snag a set from an STi, maybe the brackets are different on the newer models.

Everyone keeps saying STi mounts, but I assume they are referring to Group-N (stiffer than OEM STi stock).

I haven't heard ofthe correct Group-N mounts having any trouble going in.

Well I think im going to get a cheap set from a member and just get this job done. I got other projects that could use the money. Not sure how much of an improvement the group N mounts are, but Im thinking a set of struts and springs will be more noticable so thats where Im going to put my extra money... if I ever get any extra money

STI or STi

Post by kleinkid »

Did STI design the Group N engine and tranny mounts for FIA homologation? They certainly did. Therefore they are STI. STI is a subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries and was established to undertake all motor sports activities for Subaru.(from the STI website). http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/e/index.html

STi(note lower case i) is a model of the Subaru Impreza WRX.

Myself, and many others have purchased and installed STI Group N engine and transmission mounts on our BC Legacys.

Others may have purchased stock engine and transmission mounts for the Imprezza WRX STi and installed them on their BC Legacy.

IMO.
