Hello. I got my Subaru , and i love it!:))))
It is an 1990 with 87k miles.

Okay my question is:

1) I would like to make a full maintance on it, but I dont know
where. I wrote to Franks subaru dealship in Orange, but never got any
replies, and when I went to Franks Subaru I got blown off by some
Japanese guy, who was more or less rude to me ;_;. After that
experience I decided to go to a good mechanic. The problem is I dont
know one in ORange county(as this is my first car!:)) . Can someone
pls recommend me a place for a full check up on the car?

2) I went to Econo Lube for an oil change, as it was very dirty, and
I have a feeling i got scammed, but Im not sure, so I will ask you
this.

I went for an oil change, and it was like 18 bucks, when they drove
the car for an oil change, the mechanic told me that my "boot"? was
broken. He flashed the light allover the place, but I jsut took his
word for it. It seemed like it was not ripped but "pulled a bit to
the side" revealing a shaft"? He said if i keep on driving i will
brake downt he wheel in about 45 min, and ruin it. I said how much,
he said with price of an oil is 100 dollars, and 1.5 hrs. After I
said okay , 10 min later they said why dont ir eplace the inner and
the outer one as well, since the car will be up there. Since I need
to replace it as well. I said okay.145 dollars now.

Anyway, after about 3.5 hrs, they only replaced one boot, and then
told me (they were closing I guess) after all i didnt need to replace
the inner one (i got confused, but what i figured they replaced one
of them but not the other) and it will be 103 bucks again.

I payed...and now im wondering, did i get a "bait, and switch"?(liek
hey we give u oil, and then they try to give me all kind of problems
withthe car) And did i get over charged? they also told me i need
major engine repair, as oil leacking...so as u can see i need a
mechanic.:T

Sincerely
Eugene

I personally wont get any oil shop to touch anything except oil, and then
you still need to watch them. I would have taken it to a 2nd mechanic for a
"check up"

John,

Research your mechanic very carefully. I don't reccomend taking your car to _any_ dealership unless you have a very firm grasp on who is doing the work, how reliable they are, what references you have, reccomendations from other people, etc.

In Seattle we are blessed with some very good independant mechanics, the most notable by far is Mike at <http://www.geocities.com/smartservice4u/> Smart Service . There is some great information on his site about maintainence too.

A full jobbie will cost you some pretty serious bucks, depending on how thorough they are and what they find ~$500. Here's what Fuji Heavy Industries reccomends:

P.S. someone please post this on the Yahoo! club file section. I'm too lazy to do it myself at the moment. :o)

Eugene-go to the Subaru Club of America website-click onto vendors/links (can`t remember which) & look for a dealer in Irvine (somewhere near Lake Forest & the 405); they have people that know what they`re doing. When you pull an axle to do CV boots, always do both boots-sounds like you were @ Tweedle-dum`s place of business-be careful!---ROD (AZ.)

That's good advice John, I'd take Rod up on that one. It sounds like your car just missed it's 30/60 K mile tune up is all.
