Parking lights wont turn off?

Post by Redlined »

First beautiful day in weeks so I take the car out to get it washed. when I get home I notice my parking lights are on. First I look down at the keys in my hand and think "now THATS odd" then I open to door and realize the switch is off.

So. Not only is the ignition off but the switch is also and I still have parking lights on (not headlights and they dont turn on if I turn the switch on with the ignition off)

Any clues where I should start looking? I hate electrical work

Did you try to cycle the parking light switch? Maybe turning on then back off will do the trick?

Yes I did. Both with the ignition on and off with no results.

Considering this happened directly after getting my car washed. is there a connection somewhere that is suseptible <sp?> to water?

Did you hit the switch on top of the steering column?

Hahahaha I hated that damn switch when I first got my Subaru. Don't worry, I think just about EVERYONE does what you did and freaks out.

I think cleaning the interior is how most people discover the thing.

Yeah. The guy I bought my car from warned me about it ahead of time, but I still hit it once and then remembered what he told me.

When I flipped mine, I must have popped the hood and pulled the fuse for a month before I finally looked it up on here and found out what a dork Id been! Dont worry friend, some people have done much much worse as a result of being unaware of that tricky little switch.

LOL... At least you caught it! The first time that happened to me, (yep, after a car wash, they flipped the switch when wiping the column down) I parked the car in the morning, and went up to the apt and to bed. Got up that night to go to work, battery was totally dead... and I was parallel parked, so I couldn't get it out to coast. Hello... AAA?
Late for work, naturally.

Haha, that's the switch I thought we were talking about, the one on top of the steering wheel column.

Don't worry, it's happened to everyone. :)
