I bought this engine to rebuild, it looked Exactly like a EJ22T it has the VF11 turbo, everything seems stock.
I don't trust the seller one bit, but it doesn't matter because I'm rebuilding it.
SO my mechanic and I strip it down and stamped on the engine block is EJ22 not EJ22T!!!!! Is this normal?? Did someone put a VF11 on an EJ22 sometime in the last 17 years this engine has been around and now......... Or is it just the same block so subaru never changed the stamp itself??
HELP I've got cold sweats.
Big scare help please!!! engine stamp says EJ22

ej22t's & ej22e's say ej22 on the block.
You already bought the engine so its a little late, but the ej22t should have a graph-paper like grid cast on the engine's bell-housing area around the turbo.
Once you pull the heads off you'll know if it is a ej22t (closed deck) or ej22e (open deck).

There's also a metal 90 deg tube on the block where the PCV system hooks in.

Yep, just under the power steering pump is a 90* fitting for the PCV hose to connect to. This is an easy way to identify the EJ22T block from the others.

WOW !!!! thanks for the quick replys!!!
I don't have the engine here with me, but I do remember a grid paper like grid embossed on the bell housing, so my nerves are at ease.
I've heard alot about closed deck, open deck, what's the difference? Phisically speeking.
I ask because we did take the heads of last night and I examened them closely, but because they are the first engine heads I've ever seen, I don't know what the dif is.
According to my mechanic this engine was barely broken in!!! The timing belt was stripped and no one took the time to take the covers off to see that it was actualy the idler puller that had seized and stipped it. They just oppened up one side of the cover saw a stripped belt and took the engine out!! Doubt anyone cares, but I'm stoked, and my GF and family certainly don't give a F*.
Another question if I may, I'm about to order 700$ worth in parts to rebuild this engine from Auto parts Giant, and some listings are confusing, would anyone with experience mind taking 5 min to review my order with them, it would be greatly appreciated!!!
Just reply and I'll drop you an email with the order attached pasted into Word. I sent it to my mechanic but he's very flaky.
Thanks so much

You'd see the difference between the decks on the block, not the heads:

for rebuild shit, go straight to your subaru dealer, or order from subarugenuineparts.com.
Things you can buy aftermarket are maybe ACL bearings, wiseco pistons(because that's the main 2.2t weaklink), Some performance aftermarket valvetrains are less than subaru genuine ones.
Things you have to buy genuine subaru, Timing belt, idlers, tensioner, engine rebuild gasket set, water pump(sti takeoff), oilpump (if you get a new one, get the one for the 08 sti, its the biggest USDM oil pump, and it costs the same as any other.)
Send me your order and I'll dissect it tomorrow when I'm at work. my email is Summer_Snowboarder at gmail dot com.
