Hit a curb.....mucho damage
go to bottom to skip story
so outside it is solid ice on everything, i cant even walking the grass without falling down. most of the streets are clean except for the side roads which are all solid ice.
i woke up this morning and was going to go meet up with my friend and we were going to play around with his truck and my car. well i ended up having to go pick him up and just take my car since his dad took his truck. i didnt really want to go get him since hes so far away.
anyway.... i picked him up at his house, the road by his house is solid ice. i backed out of his drive way and slid straight across the road and into a curb. i drove the car to the fire dept. garage and took the wheel off and put the spare on, but the car drives sideways, it only goes straight on the ice. so i had a tow truck come since i couldnt handle that for another 15miles on a 55mph road
the rim is busted and i havent gotten a good look yet but i think its the knuckle that is bent (not the CA), and i am positive the bearing is trashed. am i forgetting anything? ill get some pics soon
i should have just stayed home and went sledding.....my bank account will be empty after i fix this shit

Too bad you didn't hit with the rear - I sidelined curbs twice pulling hand brake turns with no problem whatsoever. You sure it's not just the control arm?

thats definitely some comforting news, assuming i can find one in a junkyard.... last time i saw a 90-94 it was FWD, i havent yet seen another Leggy with matching wheels, so i might have to go mis-matched or get a whole setjamal wrote: A junkyard spindle and control arm were only about $80.

Wow. Maybe because of the offset strut mount on the awd rears, they are weaker. The fwd spindles are centered and I can attest that they can take a beating.

i was messing around in a parking lot in the snow on christmas day
and after doing perfect on a dime donuts i let off the gas and shot sideways into the curb, my car drove strait 5 k back to my house, when i got out and had a better look i noticed the right rear tire was pushed in at the bottom and pushing out on top but still spun true. so i got it checked out and the guy said replace the whole right rear and said fuck you, i took it to my other guy and he measured it out and told me the knuckle was bent and my rim was cracked which i could already tell. so for 75 i got the right rear knuckle out of a 92 wagon and it fit perfect everything seems to be fine i'm getting the alighnment done tomorrow to make sure.
i also prchased 4 used 04 wrx oem's w/ tires, 16" with 90%tread hankook k106's for 300$
i would definetly consider the new wheels if you got the cash

the damage is worse than i thought, the differential crossmember is bent at the CA mount. i havent been able to get a good look at the hub yet because i cant get it off, the bolt at the bottom for the CAs is bent and wont budge at all, but i guess im going to take apart the whole rear end anyway so ill figure it out when it all come out.

well the crossmember came in today, it was odd, the DHL guy didnt even knock, he just left it on the back porch.
well, it looks a little rusty, but i think thats to be expected from cars this old and especially one coming from up north.
i think i would like to sand it down and paint it before i put it on. is there a specific type of paint i should use? i dont plan on sanding it to bare metal, so i was thinking about using Rustoleum "Stops Rust" Primer.

fast flat black, with the rust-o sounds like a good idea, spray out all the holes and stuff with pb blaster, or something else like it to remove the rust there too.

well its all back together, i cleaned it with 230*F water at 2500psi, which did the job nicely.
buuuuttt....... we have discovered the strut is bent, the camber is way out (+).
all four of them have less than 5k miles, would it be ok to just replace one? i am going to try and see if there is anyway of bending it back straight, but if not ill just get new

Don't see why not. With only 5k miles should still be like new. Unless you hit alot of huge bumps. Not sure if you would want to attempt bending back the strut. Are they KYB? Give them a call if so and say it is bent and you don't know why.

Wow, looking at the wheel, I wouldn't guess that the damage extended all the way to the differential cross member
My wife and I have both hit our fair share of curbs in our blissful youth, and in all but one instance the curb got the sour end of the deal...
I guess it all has to due with the height of the curb and the angle of impact....
