Anyone running HID's
Anyone running HIDs on their 92-94 Legacy Turbo. If so, what kit did you go with and how easy is it to install. I see a lot of plug n play kits on ebay. Which would you suggest.

I'm going to put 4300k HIDs in my GT, but there's a very big difference between my headlight arrangement and yours.
The 00+ GT had split bulbs for high/low beams, so the HID bulbs are only getting a normal amount of voltage, so they're not super bright. I queried the previous owner of the set many times and he assures me that it's much better in a split setup than mono-bulb arrangement, like earlier models.
I will keep this stuff in mind though. Good infos.

Don't do it, Dave! Don't buy into the hype!
That stuff you say about "only getting a normal amount of voltage" doesn't actually make any sense. And while it's true that the HID hackjobs for single-bulb headlights are worse than the HID hackjobs for dual-bulb headlights, but they're still hackjobs that'll at the very best simply hurt your ability to see.

Can't do much besides re-sell 'em. I've already paid for them and they're in the mail.
The set I'm getting is from a fellow BE owner who has used them extensively. He says he has problems driving other cars at night now because the lighting is so poor.
I guess we'll see (pun unintentional).

Think about this logically. The fact that you've paid for something that'll ruin your lighting doesn't mean you have to ruin your lighting.
Also, realize that thinking you can see better is different from actually seeing better. There are a lot of reasons he thinks he can see better with them, and I've enumerated them in other threads on this topic, but the fact is that he cannot.
Upgrade your lighting circuit, get a set of high-output H1 bulbs like the Narva RangePower +50 Daniel Stern sells, and you'll see way better. I promise.

FWIW, here's his DIY thread on the installation:

I know I can resell them. Guess there's more than one way to learn, right?

That makes no sense at all. I don't even know where to begin explaining what's wrong with it.The DIY article linked to by DLC wrote:Housings with a single bulb like H4 (honda civic) will cause the HID to receive hi beam voltage and therefore blind traffic.
With non-HID headlights, all filaments get the same voltage -- the voltage of the car's electrical system.
HID capsules run off very high voltage, produced by the ballasts.
Nearly all installations of HID capsules into lamps designed for halogen bulbs will blind traffic. The reason has nothing to do with voltage; it is that an HID capsule and a halogen bulb produce completely different patterns of light.
GAAHHH! Replacing a fuse with a higher-amp fuse is a definite no-no. Anybody who knows anything about a car's electrical system will tell you that. Unless you like carbeques... And calling it "upgrading?" GAH!The same article wrote:Next you will want to upgrade the headlight fuses from 15amps to 25 amps.

OK, ok. I guess they're going on eBay.
I did get a set of GT headlights with cleared corners. They're illegal too, but at least they won't affect my lighting...
...or WILL THEY?

Okay... I'm gonna get flamed here so bear with me... I'm kinda cold right now
What if you made a clear acrylic lens, then mounted an HID system behind it within the stock housing with no fluting (or whatever the hell its called) and not silver lining? Of course, the system being from an OEM source, then aiming them correctly?

Dave - Hehe... It depends. I've never taken apart a set of GT headlights. If any lenses were removed, then yes. If the only thing removed was a color filter, then no. Unfortunately, if they're like most other lights, then it's the former.
smh0101 - That'd work. That's what Steve's suggesting with the Hella 90mm units.

Good to be on a forum where Vikash can be there to trump the cause for as-designed lighting. So much pseudo-science subjective crap goes around about these (Oh, but I can definitely see better! - Yet very expensive light sensoring equipment and a century of lighting science tailored to the human eye says your wrong...)
Take one look at that video in the link I posted, which Vikash originally posted long time ago, and see what HID "conversions" do to E-code lights... Ick! That should tell you right there how not-good these things must be - especially if you've ever driven in a car with good stock lighting, like a lot of older BMW's.

Yeah....the link you posted is really quite good. The work done with DOT also shows the light scatter, and how unfocused it is.
