Power antenna Assembly Not going up down raising lowering

Post by ripplesouth »

After ensuring that no circuits were shorting out, and that the wires had good continuity between the radio iso block and the antenna iso block, and that nothing was a rusted out hulk, I proceeded to the following step.

I realised the radio's internal driver for the power antenna relay died. Since I do not have the foggiest clue how to disect the head unit and repair the open circuit I worked around the problem.

The workaround that resolved it for me was to find the yellow and red-stripe wire and with a quick connect, wire it to the green/black lead wire on pin 6 of the radio iso block which is the signal for the solenoid of the power antenna

See http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/bcstereo/ for further details

Note on my 1990 subaru legacy ls the yellow/red wire was on the top right hand corner of the smaller iso connector block.

Go go gadget Antenna!

Glad you got it to work again.

To clarify: ripplesouth's radio's internal driver for the power antenna relay died. This is a reasonable workaround -- it just makes the power antenna go up whenever the car's accessories are on.

Just to be safe, I would make sure the power antenna relay wire is no longer connected to the radio if you do this.
