To get everyone up to date on the rally car project:
I have received my EJ20t from a supplier in California, came pretty
complete. Intercooler, turbo (my choice of 3 different) and alot of other
bits. I have a shipment leaving today from New Zealand to Canada of the
remaining bits (Thanks Daniel!) computer, wiring harness, all sensors,
intercooloer radiator, intercooler pump, igniters, air flow meter, air box,
and all other associated hoses.
Remember, this is going into a left hand drive North American car.
Well, I removed the old sick engine, leaving the transmission in place.
Also the Radiator and all other hoses were removed. I dropped the new,
larger motor in place (quad cam is much bigger!). I had the transmission
jacked up a bit to allow clearance of the engine mounts and WOW, it bolted
right in!
My exhaust bolts right on to the 2.0t, engine mounts, transmission
everything lined up. I have to trim a bracket off the back of the
intercooler that held the overflow (will be re-located) to allow clearance
of the clutch cylinder but everything else so far fits.
So the parts arrive in a few days (Fed-Ex 2 day service, about $300 cdn)
and will let everyone know how the rest goes. I better not have anymore
problems cuz I have 2.5 weeks till my next race.
I am fortunate to be gaining this experience and lucky I can do it in my
garage my self.

Sheesh, you make it sounds so easy!
Some kind of semi-detailed write-up of this would be invaluable for
those who might follow in your footsteps. The only other swap i know
of is Justin Brande's EJ20-RA that he did about two years ago.

Eh, any engine swap to/from a legacy/impreza/forester is easy if you have a
left-handed socket wrench at home!
Richard (the guy who rebuilt Bills transmission and the guy i'm co-driving
for) has done complete engine and transmission swaps by himself in his
garage at home! Then again, he's been doing this for 10 years, so he's got a
bit of expirence.

Everything is easier with a left handed socket wrench...
I am lucky I have a 2 car garage to work in with enough tools to do it.
Rental shops for the rest! It has been just me doing it. I will try and
write something down for reference.
BTW, How do you guys in Australia, NZ and rest of the civilized car world
(read not north america) etc change your sparkplugs with so little room to
work?

Hey that's something I'd like to know as well !!! I've thought of
changing the plugs myself, but I'm not yet sure it's worth it. On the
other hand, the local dealer charges quite a lot for the job, so...

Yet someone else to do it!!! I use platinum tips, haven't had to
replace them yet after about 200,000km. They are removable you just
have to remove the washer bottle and airbox.
Mark I should send you a picture of my Twin Turbo even less room on
that.
