Hi, I messaged a few days ago saying the transmission wouldn't engage into reverse. So we took it in to Carter Subaru in Seattle and my mom just told me the car needs a new transmission and told me that subaru said you can't rebuilt ones for this car. Is that true?
Thanks
Kevin

There are usually shops that do this, as i doubt Subaru themselves
ever did the rebuilding themselves. Sounds like your dealer is a
little fruity.
I'm sure Jason or someone else up in the NW can point you to a place
that can help you out.

No Rebuilt Tranny on 93' Legacy TW Autos?
Kevin--
well there may be a good reason that they're suggesting a replacement
instead of a rebuild...
Think of how long it's going to take them to take out your tranny, take it
apart, find out what little teeny servo is fouled up, replace it (you pay
for the part too), put the tranny back together, then put it back into your
car.. All at $74 an hour. That's going to take a long time and a lot of
money.
Your second option (the one they gave you) is that they can just replace the
tranny. This will cost a lot, but it won't take NEARLY as long, and there
isn't as much room for error. If you want a second opinion, call another
shop. If you're in the Tacoma area, call Pacific Import Auto, those guys are
good and the service prices are a bit less of a strain sometimes.
Not all Service departments are out for your cash, some are genuinely there
to help. My. $0.02, and pardon the spelling.

No Rebuilt Tranny on 93' Legacy TW Autos?
kevin-there`s a used 4eat tranny on www.teaguesauto.com for $1,400.00 + shipping. This`ll save some money & if it`s a later model, it`ll probably be OK. Whatever you get, make sure you have a Subie trans filter kit & a trans cooler separate from the one in the radiator. Good luck---ROD (AZ.)

No Rebuilt Tranny on 93' Legacy TW Autos?
Kevin,
Smart Service (www.smartservice4u.com ) is the place to go. They _are_ the
NW Subie experts. For God sakes don't take it to a dealership.
Mike and the fellas over there will give you a better price anyhow. They are
100% honest and very helpful. They have an excellent turn around time,
despite the fact their business has outgrown it's location.
I've gone over to Mike's more than once for a clue on my projects and his
advice has always been reliable, and free. If he has to pick up a wrench
he'll charge you for it, but nobody can blame him for that, after all he has
a business to run.
01 = my two bits,
-Sambo

Smart Service (www.smartservice4u.com ) is the place to go. They _are_ the
NW Subie experts. For God sakes don't take it to a dealership.
Mike and the fellas over there will give you a better price anyhow. They are
100% honest and very helpful. They have an excellent turn around time,
despite the fact their business has outgrown it's location.
I've gone over to Mike's more than once for a clue on my projects and his
advice has always been reliable, and free. If he has to pick up a wrench
he'll charge you for it, but nobody can blame him for that, after all he has
a business to run.

Autos?
There are usually shops that do this, as i doubt Subaru themselves
ever did the rebuilding themselves. Sounds like your dealer is a
little fruity.
I'm sure Jason or someone else up in the NW can point you to a place
that can help you out.

No Rebuilt Tranny on 93' Legacy TW Autos?
Thanks alot for your offer of help and your recommendation to smart service. The car is currently at someother place besides the dealership but the name has escaped my mind. I'll ask my dad when he gets home. I will also tell him about smartservice as an option.
Can't say this enough, thank you
