tilt steering...wtf??

ok, so i posted prevoiusly on becoming a new owner on a 92 legacy sedan. the only real problem ive found is that its soooo cramped for me to drive the car being 6'1. theres a knob on the column that will push the steering wheel up but its only for easier entry in and out and wont stay in the "up" position. has anyone modified this to stay up, or lowered the stock seats so you have more leg room??? if i dont get an answer i'll probably mock something up so i can at least give a little back. thanks guys in advance.

also i did search..26 pages worth and nothing !!! lol.

The lever to actually adjust the steering wheel is under the steering column.

The Subaru tilt wheel works a little different than most others I've seen... It has an up position and a driving position, the lever on the bottom sets the driving position, the lever on the side lets it go full up.

P.S. I'm 6'2" and 260lb. and I fit in mine pretty well. Seat all the way back (like I do in every car), reclined one notch and wheel about half way down.

okkkkkkkkkk *smacks head* i figured it out today! ive only had a few hours time with it since i got it the other day and that was pretty much driving it home, then to work and back twice. thanks for the tip on the bottom lever, i didnt realize it was there. SO much room now! took a good few hours of detailing and the car looks brand new inside subaru builds quality interiors, its really held up all these years, just took a good scrub to get back to new.

Yeah, they're not the most beautiful interiors, but they can still look new 20 years later without any effort. I still think they've always been better than their more highly rated competitors.

Are you kidding for a 15 year old car I think it looks awesome. Good layout, not complicated, and decently modern.

I mean in terms of material quality and gaps - there's no mistaking it for a high end car. Still, the last generation 5-series had larger gaps between the dash and door panels than our older, cheaper cars. I haven't been in the newest monstrosity, so maybe that one's got better perceived quality. To read car magazines, you'd think Subarus had the worst interiors in their class, when I find they have been consistently better than Toyota (which doesn't receive the same criticism) with better ergonomics than many new cars (and a lower cowl for better sight lines).
