coil pack vs direct coil ignition

Post by NICO »

any help on this subject would be great.

should i change my system (ej22t) to this direct coil on plug? is it really that much better?

i dont get it!! a ej20k that can rev so high and a huge ass turbo vf22, can rev all day and night to say 8000rpm with no problems.

and on the other hand the ej20g can only rev to 7000rpm?

what gives? i have both these heads on diffrent ej22t blocks, with the ej20k i can rev high and no problem, with the ej20g heads i get this crazy cut feel after 6000rpm?

should i use the ej20g dci system that i have laying around?

also how hard would it be to make it work on my car? i know i can set it up in my autronic very easy, but how would i wire these in the car to work if i really do need them?

any help would be great on this subject.

20g heads have hydraulic lash adjusters which really don't like to rev over 7k.

hmm i am wondering if anyone else on the legacy fourms has a problem reving past 6500rpm with there ej20g heads?

i wonder if i used the plastic cam gears is that why i cant rev past 6500rpm? the ej20g ones came with steel ones.

You aren't the first person to have trouble revving up high. Someone local had the same issue with his EJ20g longblock. There's a reason Subaru has gotten away from HLA's on their performance motors. They aren't the best at maintaining valve lift at high RPM.

thank you so much 93forestpearl, thats the answer i was looking for.

i was about to rip it all apart, i changed everything you can think of.

so there is something up with these dam heads, they flow nice right up to 6500rpms and go splattt after that. well i guess for a nice clean basic motor set up they are ok.

shit this set up just might out last me LOL.

i owe you a beer 93forestpearl, so i wont waste anymore time trying to get this set up right!! becuse its good for a everyday motor. time to build the race motor now.

Hamilton is a bit of a drive for me, but I'll take a '97-98 DOHC 2.5 ;)
