I'd like to put a Koyo BIG radiator on my 4eat SS, would an external tranny cooler keep the tranny happy?
I currently have an external tranny cooler on my car, but it is run in line with the OEM water/trans fluid cooler (trans fluid in & out of Rad, then in & out of the trans cooler, then back to the tranny).
Could the external cooler cool the tranny sufficently on its own?

I think it could, assuming it's a decently sized core.
I see alot of cars that have external coolers like that, though it may take a bit longer for the tranny fluid to get up to optimal temp.....

My Rad broke (stupid little plastic fitting) during the 16G / Header install so I put the Koyo Rad on with a 20"x10"x.75" external tranny cooler between the FMIC & A/C condensor.
If the Tranny gets too hot I'll have my buddy open the endtank of the KOYO put an aluminum line in there for the tranny cooler & TIG everything back together!

I have a Hayden 403 (I'll verify the model tonight) plumbed inline with the stock cooler.
It makes a difference. In the winter I had a hard time getting it up to temp - I have a seperate gauge - but now that the weather's a bit warmer, it keeps things in line. My cooler was on the medium side of things so if you had to get rid of the stock cooler you could easily fit the large cooler. It's super easy if you don't have the AC condensor in there, otherwise you can slide them inbetween the condensor/radiator, though I don't know how much room you have with the Koyo.

I actually had a smaller tranny cooler (17"x05"x.75") plumbed inline with the stock one in the Radiator & it fit between the rad & condensor.
The KOYO is fatter than the stock rad. so the new tranny cooler (20"x10"x.75") did not fit in the same location, but did fit between the A/C condensor & FMIC.
I actually called IPT (they are located about 25 minutes from my location) & they said it was fine to run a rad w/o the tranny cooler fittings as long as there was an external tranny cooler on the car.
They just suggested I get a tranny temp gauge on the car to monitor things.
I have to get my tranny temp gauge & inline filter on the car some time this week.
