lip to secure hose?

Post by mexicanzero »

random question...
has anyone ever made a lip on the y pipe going into the intercooler so that when you torque down the hose between the turbo outlet and the intercooler pipe it wont slip?
i just have a feeling that mine is slowly slipping off when i begin to torque it down so i would just feel better if i knew there was something there keeping it from falling off.

would putting a bead of jb weld or epoxy or something similar on the end and letting it dry work?

thanks

is there any proven way of permanently making one in a non ghetto way? i might try the electrical tape idea but it doesn't seem like it would last too long and where were the zip ties used?
would jb weld be strong enough and hard enough to hold the hose in place?
i'm going to be doing some long distance driving soonish and i dont want the hose blowing off in the middle of nowhere lol.

thanks

On my FMIC pipe ( just mild steel exhaust pipe) I took pliers and bent the end up all the way around the pipe.
But JB weld would definitely work. Rough up the surface first.

Oh and spray hairspray on there before you assemble it. It works, just the other day I was doing some work and GODDAMN those pipes were stuck, which is fine with me. I don't need this 20psi beast popping pipe at 11pm in the middle of nowhere.

i dont know what TMIC or turbo or whatever you're running but i fit my 45* mandrel bent pipe inside my WRX Y pipe then sealed it off with a HUGE T-bolt after cutting the Y to fit. then came the electrical tape and torque.
from there i used a 90* silicon elbow and more big T-bolt clamps to make it perfect.

thats my 30 cents
