Vibration from the front

Post by lgyee4@yahoo.com »

I've got a serious vibration from the front end under braking. I've
replaced the front rotors and pads but the vibration is still there.
any ideas?

Vibration from the front

If it only happens under vibration it is probably the braking system. I would guess it's probably the rear rotors. I know they don't get much use, but they still can warp. My 90 has a similar problem. It's pretty much fine under normal driving, if I push hard, I notice it more, till it becomes worse. A way you can tell is this. If stop and go traffic and normal driving does not invoke the vibration, it is a good bet it's the rears. Reason being is that the rears do little braking, I think 20-30% and the routine stops and gos don't get the rear rotors heated up alot. The fronts will be. If you did this and had vibration under normal stop and go, I'd say it was the front.

So try that out. I'm pretty sure it's the rear rotors.

Trust me ;)

I've changed my rotors/brakes more times then I care to admit. I nuked a set a cross-drilleds even....hehe

Vibration from the front

I don´t know how really is the subaru system, but on other car that I
have, the problem were the wheel hubs (where are bolted on, the
discs). Maybe you can measure the axial displacement of the disc
while you turn it. When you speak of rotors, are the discs or the
wheel hub?, Maybe you heated so much the discs.

Vibration from the front

Hi-check 2 things: front wheel bearings (mine needed replacing @ about 125k) or your front struts (if you have over 100k miles on ALL your struts they need replacing.) Neither item is cheap, but normal maintenance. BTW, if you feel the vibration in the seat of your pants, that`s a good indication it`s the rear rotors that are warped. Otherwise, look to the front. Good Luck---ROD (AZ.)

Vibration from the front

Auto trans? if so it is a known problem and the best way to test is
to put the car in nuetral and then slam on the brakes, then try the
same in drive, the problem has something to do with the automatic
half shafts, I can't quite remember what though.
