I just did the resistor mod as well as swapping out
some hoses I now get a blinking power light. Im
assuming this is normal and is ok to drive like this?
Can anyone confirm a blinking power light with the
transmission pressure solenoid resistor unplugged?

Yes, the power light will blink 16 times to tell you that there is a problem
with the tcu. This is because it senses no signal from the resistor you
unplugged. How do you like this mod? I felt like the car did upshift
firmer(liked that) it also downshifted firmer(didnt like that), but all in
all a good cheap mod for people with the 4eat. BillC

ok, i have a question about this. i had mine unplugged
for a bit and i did upshift better, but when i'd try and downshift
from drive into 3rd(when coming down a hill, into traffic etc) it

anyone know why this is, or is it "normal"?

Yeah Mike,
I was just goin to mention that. I do not like that at all. I plugged
the resistor back in after this happened. I think there is something
else that resistor does. But without knowing the ins and outs of the
tranny I couldn't tell you. For now I'll leave it plugged in.

resistor mod Q
Hi-I talked to the guy who originally told me about the resistor; it`s not a problem with a delayed 3rd gear downshift. Remember, your 3rd gear should `freewheel` anyway whether the resistor is in or not. First & 2nd gear are a 50/50 front-to-rear split with braking in either gear. My MY97 tranny has no braking in 3rd either & never has had that feature. Correct me if I`m wrong, but the delay you feel is when it finally engages 2ND GEAR, right??? My original tranny acted the same way. All that resistor does is up the line pressure in all gears, nothing else. Compare it both ways (resistor in /out) & let me know.---ROD (AZ.)

yeah ya know what rod i think you're right. now that you mention it,
it does in fact seem more like 2nd gear. i just like to feel the
grab in 3rd when i'm slowing down and d/s from Drive. that's
probably not too good for the tranny though either huh?

resistor mod Q
Rod I have compared it both ways. Which is how I noticed it. Before I did the mod, I would physically move the shift lever from the D position to the 3 position and the transmission would downshift into 3rd gear. When I did the resistor mod, initially I was able to do this and it kicked down quickly. Just the other day when I went to go somewhere the transmission would not kick down into 3rd gear when I manually moved the shift lever. When I plugged the resistor back in, it was back to normal.
If I would not physically move the lever and just leave it in D, it probably would produce the results you described about not really fealing the trans kick down till 2nd. I'm not sure though.
For the time being, I'm goin to leave my resistor thing plugged in.
Josh

Mike-I try to avoid going from a 90/10 frt/rear split to a 50/50 frt/rear split by downshifting from 4th to 3rd. I don`t know if it hurts anything, but at $3500 a pop for computer controlled transmissions, I`m not going to find out the hard way! See `ya---ROD (AZ.)

resistor mod Q
hey i was thinking earlier about what you(rod) said about being 90/10
in 4th gear and 50/50 in 3rd and thought that hmmm... maybe by
disconnecting that resistor it somehow just makes it all 90/10 but
then i remembered reading that all the resistor does is increase line
pressure or something and also i read josh's post below so i guess
not eh.?.?

resistor mod Q
I`ve never driven an auto FWD, so I don`t know for sure. But, if you eliminate the viscous drive & one diff, I don`t see how you could have a related problem. The trans should have compression braking in all 3 lower gears, so you should be just fine.---ROD (AZ.)

Hi-It`s 90/10 in 3rd & 4th, 50/50 in first & 2nd (unless you`re in tricky traction situations, of course.) And again, it just changes line pressure & nothing else. Enjoy the drive...ROD (AZ.)----- Original Message -----

Subject: [BC-BFLegacyWorks] Re: resistor mod Q
hey i was thinking earlier about what you(rod) said about being 90/10
in 4th gear and 50/50 in 3rd and thought that hmmm... maybe by
disconnecting that resistor it somehow just makes it all 90/10 but
then i remembered reading that all the resistor does is increase line
pressure or something and also i read josh's post below so i guess
not eh.?.?
