Engine pros...Later phaseII head question..
My brother has a 2001 2.5RS with the Phase 2 SOHC Ej25. He blew a spark plug out of the heads somehow and will now need a set of heads.
What years/models are the same? All phase II 2.5 liters? Up to what year?
Thanks!
PS, I told him WRX/STI swap, but he's got no cash.

That's the plan, just getting my plan B in order.
I actually epoxied the plug in the hole on the roadside to get him home. So I have a few concerns that I might have a horrible time getting it back out to do a proper repair.
Either way, he's got my WRX while I deal with his 2.5RS. So I have got to get this fixed before he pulls a "turbo spooled at 1500 rpm".

The phase II SOHC Ej25 heads were first introduced on the 1999 2.5RS. It was the only Subaru to get those heads that year. Then starting in 2000, they added the Forester, Legacy GT, and the Outback to the vehicles with that engine. Any 2000-2004 NA EJ25 engine will carry the heads that you are looking for.

Any PhaseII EJ25 heads will work. This means anything that was 2.5L from 1999 to at least 2003. Matt Monson says up to 2004. I'm being conservative by saying 2003 because they changed the bugeye to the "blobeye" body style in 2004 and I don't know if the engines stayed the same or not. Probably they did, I just don't know so I'm erring on the side of safety considering the fact that I am giving someone else advice over the internet.

I wasn't talking to you in my response. I was talking to the original poster. You jacked his thread to ask about your EJ22T build.Airgne wrote:ok so if i do the ej25 pahse II head on a ej22t this will do what and what parts do i have to change?

Read what I wrote again. What you are saying is wrong. I was VERY specific in what I said. I thought you said you wanted to be careful about giving out correct information on the internet?impreza_GC8 wrote:Any PhaseII EJ25 heads will work. In 1999 the Forester, Legacy GT and Outback all continued to use the DOHC heads on phase II blocks. You cannot use just ANYTHING from 1999. It you call up a dismantler and ask for a set of 1999 Ej25 heads you might not get what you were looking for.

Don't worry about it. Contrary to what these other noobs are saying, around here we are pretty accepting of minor hijacks as long as you are contributing to the technical discussion. Look at the post count of the people acting like jerks and lecturing you. They are talking out their arse. If you were out of line, myself, or one of the other moderators would have set you straight. If impreza_GC8 wants to act like an unhelpful jerk just ignore him and wait until someone nicer comes along and answers your question.
To answer your question, putting Ej25 heads onto an Ej22T is a very popular modification for trying to make 300+ chp. There are quite a few threads here about it as many of us have done it. I would start with the sticky at the top that talks about Xephyr's car. Then look for anything by Douglas Vincent, and there's a really nice "how to" thread by Napp Happy about installing the DOHC Ej25 heads on the Ej22T. You will find that the DOHC heads are preferred because they are based on turbo castings. After you have dug around a bit and have more questions, that's when it would be appropriate to start your own thread to further discuss this topic.
*Note to loud mouthed noobs, this is the polite and proper way to redirect someone to do a search, while answering their question. Please take note of this. If you want to act like an asshole go post on NASIOC. We are a kinder gentler forum around here and try to support the Golden Rule. If your momma didn't teach it to you, go Google it and commit it to memory.
