Hooking up the city lights

Post by jefferson »

I am wanting to get the city lights working on my 91edm lights. I have been looking for the counterpart to the connector as I really don't want to cut and splice. What has everyone else done? Is there a counterpart to that connector on any of the usdm cars? Thanks for any help.

There are no existing wires/connectors for city lights. I had to build my own wiring harness for mine. I actually wired them into the factory daytime running lights.

We don't have DRL on the USDM cars.

My plan is to cut off the odd connector on the city light, it doesn't match up with anything I've been able to locate anyway.

Then, hit a salvage yard and get the proper connectors to mate with the existing parking lamps in your car. The trick is to get both the male and female connectors, and leave plenty of wire length when you cut them from the donor harness. That's four total connectors-- two male, two female. One each for left and right.

Then splice one male and one female on to the city light wires in parallel with each other.

Now, all you have to do is disconnect the parking lamp connector from the chassis harness and connect both chassis and lamp connectors to the appropriate male and female connectors on the city light. That's plug and play-- no harm no foul on your stock wiring harness. Easy to remove if you sell the EDM headlights.

If I'm not mistaken the harness connectors are the same on the turn signals, so you could also try running the city lights along with your turn signals.

Here is a diagram of what I'm talking about. Let me know if it's not clear. Click to enlarge.

Also, here are images of the two pole connector that is on the parking lamp and the turn signals on my 1991 SS. I think they went to a different connector in MY92

Steve that will work. I lucked out and had the connectors for mine I believe. I just tapped into the parking lights for my power.
