Cruise control

Post by steelcitysubie »

I have a 90 legacy wagon 5 spd and the cruise gave out on me during a long trip. After that it would work for about 10 miles then give out. When I push the cruise button I hear a clicking sound behind passenger side dashboard. Any clue?

The clicking is normal. It's the relay.

If you have cruise control for a short period of time I would suspect a vacuum leak. Either a small leak in the hose to the actuator, or more likely it's the actuator itself. It depends on vacuum to control the throttle position. Sounds like a slow leak ,so it holds position for a while, but as the vacuum leaks down it can no longer hold throttle position.

It only worked like 5 times after the long trip. If I played with the swicthes for a while it would work sometimes. Is there a criuse amplifier or a computer?

Work sometimes... as in the computer would forget what your cruse speed was set to? Mine does that too some times.

Theres no vacuum leak and the controller that is on the cruise cable holds vacuum. I traced the vacuum line to another part with a 4 wire plug. Could that be the problem? Can I test that?

That's the vacuum pump. I would try and test for vacuum.
