Little Black Button in Front of shifter?

Post by Buffman »

I noticed while I was driving the car right in front of the shifter is a little black button. What is it?

Here's a picture..

What does the switch on top of the steering wheel do also? I'm assuming something to do with the parking lamps? I can't beleive all the little features this 92 car has.

Nice interior!! That button infront of the shifter allows you to move the gear selector without the key in. Just hold it then shift. The one above the steering wheel is as you mentioned for parking lamps. Turns on the corner lights, side ones, and tails.

It is a great feature, especially when you are ripping the dash apart and need to move the damn shifter.

But, for an FYI, if you are to use it, make sure you have your foot on the brake, or you'll end up grinding through some gears. It's an awful sound, just take my word for it.

??? I don't think it should do that..... it happened to me once, no bad noises....

According to my Haynes manual, this button was deleted on the BD Legacy and you actually had to pop off the shift cover and stick a screw driver down there to over-ride the shift lock  That would've been hell in my wife's car, when the shift lock solenoid went and it couldn't shift out of park. But thanks to that awesome button she could just unlock it with the push of a button and be off to work, and I was able to take 4 months to get around to fixing it :-D
