Performance Coatings

Post by AWD_addict »

I took some exhaust parts to Performance Coatings for ceramic coating. Turn around time was going to be a week or so, but they were ready in 2 days! Price quote was based on size and shape, and actual measuring was involved.

Overall I'm pleased, I think everything came out looking great. The one thing I don't like was the sand/blasting media deposited in my up-pipe. I think it was trapped in the flex joint, since there's a sort of plate inside that makes a little spot for crap to hide. I cleaned it out since I didn't want mystery projectiles going in the turbo. I'm not sure whether it would have done any harm, but I didn't want to find out.

Surprise sand!

Threads look nice.

Bonus shot of a quick jig I made for drilling out a boss. You can see the manifold here looking ugly before coating.

Thats Performance Coatings in Auburn, right? What was your cost for all of that? I've been thinking of having my d/p done.
BTW what d/p is that?

Your EGT's might read a little warm there since it is right where the two port come together. Mine is in the other cast piece everything merges, and it reads really warm there. I see up to 1700° and I don't melt pistons. I need to move mine to right off the port.

Yes, in Auburn. You can drop off your stuff in person if you want.

Cost was about $200.

DP was bought used, I'm not sure but I think it is a Stromung. It had a divorced wastegate tube and pretty nice construction so I wasn't too concerned with brand.

If EGT is too warm I can always switch to the other cast piece. That location had a nicely sized boss for the fitting. I want to know what #4 is up to anyway.
