transmission degeneration

Post by isomec2001 »

Hi guys,
I am still battling with two '93 and '94 Legacy 4x4 systems on the
auto trannies. Sure would appreciate any help as I am sure not
experienced with these units!
We went to remove the fuse in the FWD fuse box on the firewall
under the hood, and there were no fuses in either of our cars. We
have an extra used trannie that is bad, and I removed the pan and the
back end of it and found the clutch pack and control valve, but of
course you can't see where the valve wire goes before it exits the
transmission. I do not know whether the valve is energized to release
the clutch pack or apply the clutch pack. In the extra transmission
that I have apart, the 4 wheel drive ID clutch driver was ripped
completely free of the inner spline.
I sure would like to know the hydraulic pathway to the clutch pack,
and the electrical control path to the valve, so I can modify it to
have 4x4 at manual command. Thanks so much to anyone that understands
this!!!! note:I am handicapped in that as yet I only have a Chilton
manual for these vehicles- and frankly it's only use is ...well it's
too rough for toilet paper....... Jim Ison

Jim,

The FWD fuse holder is sorta backwards. You put the fuse in the fuse holder to "Disable" AWD. If there is no fuse in there, the AWD will work the way it's supposed to.

Check out this thread http://pub1.ezboard.com/fultimatesubaru ... 3554.topic

It talks about someone finding the brown wire to engage the clutch pack, and tieing a switch to that to get "manual" AWD or something to that nature.

Josh

The only thing i know is that i'm glad my AT is gone.

Get the Haynes manual, it's mildly better, but not as much as you'll
probably need.
