Gas tank 16 gallons?

Post by SILINC3R »

not sure where to place this post. but is it true my 1990 NA FWD has a 16 gallon tank. i thought it had only 10. the most it has gone to was like 12 or 13 but that was because i ran it out of gas almost.

Yup, 15.9 gallons it takes. If you have to you can always take the drain plugs out of the tank then fill it up.

lol maybe driving 50 mph constantly on a straight level road. I had a 90 NA wagon that got 24mpg average.
i thought it had only 10. the most it has gone to was like 12 or 13
Why would you think it was 10 if you have put up to 12 or 13 gallons in it? Every time I filled it up it was around 12 gallons. Which meant there was always 3 or 4 more gallons in it!

i figured someone would point that out but i figured i drained it throughout the lines too. you can always top off too remember that. so when i saw 11 or 12 i never thought anything of it but that i was full

How do you know the tank was empty? If the light comes on, it indicates there is 10L left. Also how do you calculate your mpg? You just look at how many gallons you filled up and how many miles you put.

20 miles past the light is nothing. There's around 2.4 gal when the light comes on. So at 24 miles a gallon, you had a bit more you could go.

nvm on that last question. It's 15.9 gallons either way. It's just for the 90's model is 14.8 gallons for AWD. That is why I asked

AWD. Ohh okay. I could have sworn it had a 13.5 gallon tank or something, but the gauge probably reads funky. Usually a 1/4 of tank or close to it takes about 8-9 gallons to go Full.

Just reset the trip computer whenever you fill up and divide miles by how much fuel you put in next time you fill up and then it doesn't matter at what point on the gauge you fill up. There's no way you can get a remotely accurate idea what your average mileage is by guessing off the fuel gauge anyway. I always do the math to see what I get in the Mazda and it's very consistent almost regardless of how I drive—27 and change on winter gas, 30 and change on summer gas. My wagon got pretty consistently 25 (23 with the low compression) driving like more of an asshole, but I didn't measure it as well.

lol still confused how you were getting that idea when you do the math looking at how much fuel you filled and your trip. Either way they still get like 30mpg especially with the fwd N/A.

Yeah....I always do the math...or at least write down the numbers every time I get gas. It's a good way to keep tabs on how the car is running, if you might have a problem, as well as your tire pressure.

becasue i thought the tank was 10 gallons and i could drive between 350 and 400 on the freeway. if i was driving solely on the freeway. so i would divide by 10 and get 35 to 40 miles to a gallon
