Drivers Sun visor light repair tutorial with pics

Post by magicmike »

Hello all!

Well, I fixed this on my old wagon that went off to be scapped and I forgot to grab the visor out of that car so I was forced to fix the one on my current wagon. Oh yes, what am I talking about for those of you who may be confused. Well after 14+ years of flipping that visor up and down the 2 little 20-22 gauge wires that run into the visor to light that bulb beside the mirror break and it wont come on. So, I've documented my quick fix with some photos and I'll do a little write up here for you guys.

1. Unistall the visor
1a. Two physips head screws, pull it out and unplug the two wire connector.
2. Open the lid exposing the mirror and light and using a small flat head screwdriver or pick tool pop the plastic lense out. be sure to pry where you see a little slit.
3. There will be 1 tiny phylips head screw that has a ground tab on it and this is the only thing holding the mirror assebly into the visor.
3a. Remove the screw and lift that end.
3b. Disconnect the yellow wire by unscrewing the tiny phylips head screw that attaches it to the swich section. The highest screw in the pic

3c. set aside the mirrir bulb assembly. (here is where I started taking pics lol)
4. Flip the visor over and with a small screw driver or pic tool (my favorite) pop the little plastic cover off of the bend in the visor near the mount.

4a. The wires are usually broken right where the plastic meets the felty part.
5. look through the big whole where the mirror used to be and pull some of the wire back towards the hinge part (There is enough wire to do this without adding wire!)
6. Strip 1/16 of an inch on all four ends or wire and tin them all sepreately. I used my wireless butane soldering gun cause I'm a gangster.

7. After tinning the wires seperately its easy to just hold them close and hit them with some heat and bond them together.

8. Just electrical tape both wires up seperately of course and reassemble in reverse order
9. Your done, go have a beer.

Hope this helped someone!
