The Unichip came preprogrammed becausr TurboXS dyno tested it on an otherwise stock new WRX. any other mods would require reprogramming it. It is about one-fourth the size of an ECU and is plug and play for that application.
The Unichip is cool, but their North American distribution system is nothing but shit. They have local "dealers" who are just some booger eatin morons working out of a trailer house with no dyno and who have installed only one Unichip and that was on their stolen Camaro. Their world headquaters gives your email address to your local guttersnipe, then he never contacts you.
About the WRX STi JDM fac tory ECU. I wouldn't touch it. It will plug right in to a BC-BF harness, but it is programmed for their hottest engines using the highest octane street pump gas in the world. When the dudes in UK bought JDM Sti cars and ran them on UK "petrol", they blew engines left and right. Our gas is even worse than in UK and that ECU would blow up a lesser EJ20 at least twice as fast as it would a type RA engine. We in the automotive performance "third-world" known as the US have dog piss for fuel and we need to be ever cognizant of that fact when tuning our cars.

HI Bill, my engine already arrive in the shop and I don't have the
ECU for the J-Spec engine, what should I do???
Should I get a Used Legacy turbo EJ20G ECU or plug my Stock EJ22T ECU
plus an S-AFC and a set of coil pack from the EJ22T engine??
I know there are some one who did the swap from EJ22T to EJ20G Legacy
turbo engine, what did you do on the ECU??
BTW, The highest octan in Toronto I could get is 94, will it still
make the enigne blow???
Please reply for help!!

Robinson Rants about ECUs and Unichip
I am in Australia, and have a Jap STI Spec Legacy RS RA ECU. I
currently do not have an EJ20-T running, so could part with it! Might
take a little while to get to the US but it might fix your ECU
issues, with a simple plug in fix.
If your interested just e-mail me at georgerbyrne@yahoo.com

Robinson Rants about ECUs and Unichip
If anyone is interested in this ECU please e-mail me ASAP.
I have a few money issues at the moment, and the front end of my car
is a bit banged up and has to be fixed
I was asking $650 Australian, but due to my situation, am willing to
negotiate.
By just plugging the ECU in to a fully standard EJ20-T it will
produce 160KW at the flywheel.
Thanks, George, Australia.

Well is what George saying right? George , can you tell us whether an
Australian delivered RS Turbo would need to be fed 98 octane premium
unleaded with the RS-RA chip or could one use 95 octane without damage? Do
you have an RS-RA? What are the actual differences to an RS?

Robinson Rants about ECUs and Unichip
I'm currently testing to make sure it will definately work in the
standard Australian RS Turbo's. It would definately be best to run 98
RON, as the ECU would not have to retard timing etc.
I don't think it would damage it running on lower octane, but the ECU
would have to change things, causing a loss in power.
I personally don't have an RS RA, but a friend has built one here
from a front-cut, and it is FAST!
Inside the ECU the differences
are, that the RS RA ECU has a second piggy back style chip inside it,
that sits above the normal RS ECU. Essentially if this ECU will not
run the Aus spec RS then i will sell the chip alone, that will plug
into the Aus spec RS, like a chiptorque style chip, only it is made
by STI.
