I'm putting a set of stock heads on an EJ22T that have been 're-surfaced' per the original owner, but don't know if the rocker assemblies were removed to do this. If they were I probably need to bleed the HLA's, correct?
Is there anyway to tell if they need bled? According to the FSM, it looks to be a PITA.
Thanks!

It's very easy. Just remove the rocker assembly, pull out each lifter, squeeze them. If they collapse, they need to be bled.
Use a 10mm socket or whatever works. Put it over the lifter, fill socket with oil, use a paper clip to open the bleeder port and compress & release the lifter to bleed the air out.
Then just put the lifter back in the rocker assembly and reinstall.

You can generally tell if a hla is shot by pushing on the arm of the rocker while it's still assembled. A dead one will push right in and a good one will be pretty stiff.
But if you already have them apart, then yeah, Josh's instructions are spot on. These guys are really pretty easy to take care of.
