I will be taking delivery of my first RS Liberty on the week end or Thursday. I currently own a GX Liberty front wheel drive lowered on King Springs and KYB shocks. This was done at Christmas and I would like to fit them to my RS. Is this possible. Any answer will be geatly appreciated. I know that the front springs will fit but that is all I can confirm. The rest is a mystery. I was also told when I got my rear springs that they were RS items. (the bigger of the two in dia). The shocks have a different code but I was thinking it was because it was a different model. I need an answer as soon as possible so that I can sell the GX to pay for its lown. It is for sale if any body is interested. Burgandy in color. If your in the area send me an e-mail at Doug@valleyhomes.com.au

Doug,

I know in the states and with the legacy. There is differences between the FWD and AWD Legacies in terms of shocks and springs. The rear struts I do believe have a different part number....I would assume the strut just has slightly stiffer damping....but not positive.

The rear springs for the AWD are stiffer, and I think have a slightly higher spring rate. I would assume this to be similar for the liberty in Aus.

If the lowering springs you got were meant for the RS, then they should be fine to swap over.

I was just told that I do have RS rear springs and fronts will be to. I pick the car up on Thursday and by Friday I will find out for sure. If it does than all N/A car owners should use RS items if they are a stiffer damper rate. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the help.

in my LX liberty that were also the RS items. When i converted the
car to AWD i changed the rear struts to proper RS KYB struts, and the
springs fit just fine. The only difference between the FWD and the
AWD struts other than dampening are that the AWD ones have the spring
cup set lower on the strut. (i compared them when i had the new and
old ones)

So in otherwords, go for it, shouldn't be a problem.

New Car

Post by Doug Hancock »

I just discovered the problem with the rear struts. The brace that holds the
brake line onto the strut is in a different position. The position was going
to interfear with the travel of the suspension. It would run into the
chassis. So off came the springs and done a swap. It looked like the rear
shocks had been replace just recently. In the front there was about half an
inch difference in the lower part of the strut. Al the brackets wear in the
same position so in went the lot. I took it for a whell alinment this
morning and it will need a camber kit to make it handle better. It is set up
at the moment so the tyre does not chew out. With the camber kit they can
change the chamber as we all know but they say they cay get even better tyre
wear.

I also noticed that because the new car has vented rear discs that everthing
is moved inward. Which shoud explain the interfearance with the braket.
