project car for the magazines

Post by SILINC3R »

ok so i know this may sound obsurd, but i was looking through an issue of import tuner the other day and they had a Integra (92 DA9) in there that the guy had built for like 10,000. it is a JDM, swapped engine with right hand drive i believe. non turbo fwd with about 158 HP. aftermarket intake manifold, TEIN SS coilovers in the front and Koni Sport(yellow) in the back. and some other parts.

well for what ever reason i came to the assumption why cant i do this? i love this car and cant seem to get rid of it. so i ask myself what would it take. there are some of the guys on here that have better cars than i will ever have, Livestrong14 and Jake15 to just name a few.

oh yea i only paid 200 bucks for the car and have put in maybe 2000 now so i have some money to play with if i go by this guys budget

problems
1. not AWD=no turbo and no AWD
so should i go for a AWD swap or just throw a turbo on. or should i do like this guy and just keep it N/A. but would that make them want to choose me cause it would look like i havent really done anything. ok so he put some parts on but he didnt swap and engine.
2. body= rust free except in the back where i had a little accident the first blamming week i had the car try to help someone else out. well i could just take it to a body shop sense i would need a new paint job anyways.

to start off
exterior-
-would get rear fixed and paint the car maybe a two toned color like red on bottom and black on top. cut it right below the windows, or maybe flip it.
- want to get a turbo bumper put on. think it looks better, so i belive i would need fenders as well. would like to find front lip, skirts and rear lip as well probably.
-interior-
-redoing the trim pieces in a leather-vinly fabric(black) all around. panels, dash, trim pieces, headliner.
putting in a in-dash GPS/DVD all that jazz as a head unit. then fiberglassing to 7'' screens where the visors would be. fiberglassing the dash for a 3 pod gauge right above the middle vents. fiberglassing the very back of the headliner for speakers maybe.
-seats maybe getting one race seat and leave the others. of course what do i do about them being tan and not black. get them redone maybe? then what about the carpet, just take it out? then that would be tacky.
-suspension--have KYBs all around and was going to get whiteline control springs but of course they discontiued them. so looking for springs possibly. may wait and get TEIN DS i believe.
-have whiteline sways in front and rear, front and rear struts from ebay but look nice and operate great with the sways.
-Tires-
- getting 05 Legacy Gt rims soon, will be repainting them black possibly.
-getting a TPMS( tire pressure monitoring system) which will tell me tire pressure as well as tire temps on all wells.
-Brakes-
-belive i maybe be purchasing some 02 WRX rotors with brakes so all i need is rears. have ebay brand steel lines that work well but may spend some money if i get serious about this.
-Exhaust-
maybe picking one

and of course i would be doing all the work as i have been doing except for the paint and turbo work i believe. i guess swap i might need help but so far i have been able to manage.
well that is the plan i believe. still dont know why i belive i can do this with this car but i love it and i bleive our car should be honored

I wouldn't waste the effort. Pre-'02 Subarus just aren't glamorous enough. Ask any WRX owner.

IMHO, these cars only really draw attention if they are fast.

Which is the best part—the fastest cars in the real world don't attract attention. Unfortunately, these cars are also old now and that attracts attention, at least around here.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

While I applaud your interest and drive, you need to look at the whole thing from a different angle.

There are a gazillion parts available for the 92-01 Civic/integra chassis. There are a lot of engine options and these cars make power cheap and easily, and due to their lack of weight, they put down good power to weight numbers.

In contrast, the subaru family are mid-weight cars that suffer the "handicap" of AWD and the extra weight is adds. Our cars are not cheap to mod, are heavier and that makes them a harder project.

But take a look at the people on this board and RS25 and Nasioc. While going fast is a nice goal, that is not the ONLY goal. Also the number of "ricer" cars is less than .002% ( But the Honda/Acura community ricers are about 30-40%)

So I suggest taking your car, thinking about YOUR goals and what is financially achievable in your situation, and creating an action plan.
Yes I have too many Subarus
No you can't have one
