retarded sunroof
so my sun roof keeps leaking despite everything i have done to seal it up or fix the gasket with out having to take anything apart. Can anyone post me some picture of what they did to fix there leaking problem. with the least amount of stuff having to be removed. If not if anyone can give me a really good write up, ive read the ones on here and there kinda hard to make sense of. Thanks guys for you help.

I took the easy way out when I fixed the leak in mine. Unscrewed the sunroof rails and lifted them up as much as possible. Taped a path all around the parameter of the sunroof to ease in the cleanup. Then I injected silicone all under/around the rails. Didn't quite reach as far back into the roof as I wanted though.
Anyways, I did that 2 summers ago and haven't had any leaking since. Yes, you'll want to make sure those drain tubes are NOT clogged too.

Re: retarded sunroof
Bite the bullet and take ot all apart, it will take about 8-10 hours to do and the rails go all the way back so just trying to fix the front where you can reach wont necisarilly fix the leaks.lucas wrote:so my sun roof keeps leaking despite everything i have done to seal it up or fix the gasket with out having to take anything apart. i did mine in under 8 hours. but it easier to take it out.
first take out rear seats
then undo all trim pieces
unscrew sunroof from roof
take out of car
inspect all drain pipes an unclogg if needed
unscrew the two rails from the sunroof
scrape away all the old silicone
make sure it is good and clean
draw a bead under each rail and then place rail back down so it makes a seal
if needed draw a secpnd bead on the outer side of the rail and make sure it will seal right
srcrew the rail back in place
let dry
in the mean time take the car for a spin
then replace everything back in place
hope this kind of helps
make sure to install all drain pipes or you will be back to sqaure one

Yes, it is worth the time if you take it out.
Be sure to set aside a few hours though, this isn't a 1/2 hour project.
Also, while you have it all apart, grease up the rails. It'll slide open and shut much smoother.

I have a really detailed write up with pics and everything in the middle of the sunroof sticky in the interiors section of this site (you put this in the electrical section). It's really the only detailed "how-to" I've ever put on the web, and since I nuke even the simplest of tasks, it's really in depth.
But trust us when we say do it right and NEVER have to worry again. It took me all of 2 hours to remove the roof, 1 hour to prep, let it dry overnight and put it back together. Hell you could probably just put it right back together if you use the items I prescribe in my write up. But please, just do it right. I remember my last SS had electrical tape sealing the roof when I bought it, sealed and looked ok but forget about actually opening the roof.
