If you mean the Idle Air Control valve I am sure that the two units
are identical with the exception of the air inlet. The EJ22t inlet
faces up and the EJ20t inlet faces down but this can be changed. The
air inlet is pressed into the housing and can be removed turned and
replaced with a small amount of a good epoxy such as JB weld.

The automatics and manual trans have different IAC valves. The autos have a temp dependant valve, as well as an electro magnetic rotary valve. The manuals just have a temp dependant valve.

JDM Automatic Air controller could fits to US?

Post by milehial2000 »

The only strange valve I can remember was the two terminal type on the
'90-91 and I think that was only the automatics but it had a rotary
valve if I remember correctly. I can check the parts book in the
morning and if there is a difference that may explain why I am having
problems with the idle on the EJ22t of mine as that came out of an
auto and has the rotary valve. What do the three wires connect to on
the manual cars?

JDM Automatic Air controller could fits to US?

Post by Josh Colombo »

Well....according to the FSM.....the manual trannies only have two wires goin to the IAC valve. If the connector has three wires goin to it, it could just be a dummy wire.....if you look inside the actual IAC valve, there "should" only be two pins in there.

If there's three, the outer ones, pins 1 & 3 are the only active ones.....or should be.

I did some more looking.....I guess there still is a coil, and duty valve on the IAC for the manuals.....however it is not a rotary valve.

Here's some diag tests you can run to see if the electronic portion of the valve is good.

No 1 - No 3 / 9.6 ohms [MT]
No 1 - No 2 / 9 ohms [AT]
No 2 - No 3 / 9 ohms [AT]

On the MT valve....both leads 1 & 3 go back to the ECU.

On the AT valve....leads 1 & 3 go to ecu, and 2 ties into the ignition relay......not exactly sure how, or what it's doin.......if you want I can try and scan in the diagram.

Not sure if that helps at all......

Hmmm.....I know there was automatic climate control on the early
legacies......I'm just not sure what's involved in switching over.
There are several different sensors you would need. Ambient outside
temp sensor, sun load sensor, inside temp sensor....those would be the
bare necessities, as well as the controller. Not sure if you're
interested in getting all the components together or not.

I think they call it climate controll, and I know that they had them. I'll
see if I can find a picture.
