Hesitation again?

Hesitation again?
I just went through and replaced the MAF senser and the o2 senser on
my turbo legacy and reset the computer. I have a manual boost
controller so I know its not the solinoid. The o2 senser that was in
before had a broken wire and was not functioning so I know that that
wasn't it. The MAF senser was 400.00 and tested fine.
WHAT COULD IT BE? I'm running stock boost with an intercooler and
before I replaced the o2 senser it was running smoothy but not to it
full potential ( accational engine light because of the o2 senser).
my guess is clogged fuel injecters. The fuel filter was replaced a
month ago. Any ideas?

Hesitation again?
Might be the tranny starting to go.
is it an auto or manual?
how many miles?
do you know the cars history?
do you put the petal to the metal right away without
letting things warm up a bit?
any leaks or burning smells?

Hesitation again?
its a manual
127,000 miles
I've had it for the last 30,000 miles and it was an old ladies before, and
all stock.
I alway let the car warm up.
there is a small oil leak coming from the valve cover gasket that is being
replaced by the dealer next week.
its almost like my boost controller is acting up just like the solinoid did
before I replaced it.

Hesitation again?
Subaru does have an updated knock sensor. You can tell that you have the new one because the plastic plug is a different color. I believe the old one was white and the new one gray....not positive on the colors though.
It may help.....or it may not. I still think they are too sensitive....

Hesitation again?
I don't recall what your hesitation symptoms were but I had a problem with my Touring Wagon hesitating upon acceleration. It would drop rpm instead of accelerate. After a period of time I noticed the pully on the front of the crank shaft was wobbling slightly... The Subaru dealer said not to worry; my mechanic said it was a big problem. Turns out the pulley had rounded off the front of the crank ....
I believe what was happening was the pulley would occasionally wobble and throw off vital sensors causing the ECU to get confused. There were never any errors recorded. I also tried a second MAF and CAM angle sensor.
My solution turned out to be to replace the engine with one from a salvage yard. $3000 including labor and it has never shuddered again.
I hope you find a better solution......

You could very well be right Carl I had forgotten this but mine was
doing the same but very intermittantly it turned out to be the crank
sensor.

Hesitation again?
My stock pulley wobbled like this as well. Subaru dealer said not to worry they hadn't seen a "straight" one yet.......needless to say that wasn't too comforting.....when I put the underdrive on it runs straight and true.....I made sure the torque the bolt to 110 ft/lbs and put locktite on that mofo.

You could very well be right Carl I had forgotten this but mine was
doing the same but very intermittantly it turned out to be the crank
sensor.

Hesitation again?
Here's a way to find out if it is a timing problem. If you have any
access to a OBD2 or scanning device you could monitor timing while
driving and see if the timing "jumps" when the hesitation occurrs this
would prove one thing at least and you might catch the cause of it.

Hesitation again?
You won't be able to move it by hand because of the belt tension and
probably won't even with the belt off because if it is loose it can be
jammed in place. The best way is to get a breaker bar and after
putting it in gear try to tighten it if you suspect it is loose. This
is a fairly common problem and I have seen more than one like it but
if you catch it quickly no real damage will be done.

probably won't even with the belt off because if it is loose it can be
jammed in place. The best way is to get a breaker bar and after
putting it in gear try to tighten it if you suspect it is loose. This
is a fairly common problem and I have seen more than one like it but
if you catch it quickly no real damage will be done.

Hesitation again?
Our dealer mechanic looked at mine while it was wobbling. Neither he nor I could make it shift by hand or wrench. If I had it to do over I would pull the pulley and check the shaft; refit it and torque it properly. By the time I saw the shaft end it was too late......
