how do i get the interior air box out?
i am in the process of removing the entire wiring harness for a wrx swap. the wires go behind the box that decides where the air goes. i have been fighting with thing and cant seem to get it out. HELP! all bolts and screws that i can see are out. what am i missing?
Take out the three bolts that hold the heater box, two bolts that hold the A/C evaporator, and the clamp that holds the A/c box to the fan box.

Better shot of the bottom bolts.

Pull the A/C evaporator box out a bit to give the main box room to slide around. There is enough give in the lines, so no worries if the system is charged.

You shouldnow be able to get the HVAC bos out and access the harness.

Interesting you were able to get the airbox out w/o discharging the AC system. On my 94 TW, during my heatercore replacement (PITA!), there just wasn't enough slack in the AC lines for me to wiggle the thing out of the way. Had to discharge the system and remove the AC evaporator.

I remember it taking a bit of wiggling and pushing, but I did not disconnect the A/C.
'93 sedan, if it matters. But I can't see how it would. Turbos do have a slightly different A/C line coming out of the firewall, but I think we all have turbos. I might have taken a few of the clamps off on the engine compartment side to allow more movement.

i have all the bolts out pictured. what are the two holes behind where the box was? i have the box to the right lose but with the lines still hooked up. are there lines or bolts that go through the fire wall? got fed out and had to go to class so i didnt have much time to investigate. thanx again guys. the pics alone help alot.
Those two holes are where the heater hoses exit out to the engine compartment. I didn't specifically mention those, but they need to be disconnected from the firewall under the hood.

Damn work blocking pictures.
I'm impressed you were able to get the boxes out without discharging the AC.
