Replacing engine->tranny studs?

Post by Fkyx »

So my EJ20G is missing one of the lower studs that feeds through the transmission. So I can only tighten the engine to the transmission in 3 places. I'm assuming it's a stud, since I tried to thread in one of the bolts for the top side of the engine, and it didn't thread.

How do I obtain a new stud?

You should still be able to thread a bolt into that hole, although you might have to pull the axle to get it in the hole. Same threads and length as the two upper bolts.

They are usually not that tight.

1. Carefully with a pair of Channel Locks or Vicegrips. Try not to make gouges. Any small gouges can be filed down afer removal.

or

2. Two nuts of the same size. Lock them together then turn out the stud.

or

3. A commercially available stud remover. Most autoparts stores will have one.

Ha,
good answer PhyrraM, except perhaps they should be listed in reverse order?

If you can't get a stud remover use nuts, if the nuts don't work then try grips as a last resort.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and used the nuts method. Worked fine. Learn something new every day!
