Swap Bumper Skins?

Post by kimokalihi »

What would it take to swap bumper skins between a 92-94 and a 91 SS?

I have a 91 SS and I like the bumper but I like the healights/grill of the 92-94 much better and I like the taillights better on the 92-94 and I like the door handles better because they're painted and the 92-94's don't have that ugly legacy badge under the rear windows on the sides.

So I'm thinking if I found a cheap enough 92-94 one of these days I could buy it and swap all my parts into it and switch the front bumper skins.

Is this possible? Is there any modifications that would have to be done or is it a direct swap?

What you'd have to do is change over fenders, lights, and grille, and then somehow modify your bumper to fit the 92-94 fenders. I'm not even sure if the bumper to fenders is the only fitment issue either. Best case scenario it's a huge pain in the ass. Do yourself a favor and either leave it alone or go with all facelift parts.

I don't like the sound of that! I know someone on here has taken a facelift car and put a pre-facelift bumper on the front of it.

There have been swaps... but they're almost all entire front swaps. Bumper, hood, fenders, headlights, corners.

here's my 92 with a 91 front end. you cant just swap the bumper skin's. the fenders will not accept it. and if you want the 92 lights you have to swap the fenders. its all or nothing.

I noticed you have the side marker lights, the ones behind the wheels, from the post facelift car in your 91 fenders. What did that entail? I really like those wheels too. What are they?

well behind the trim on the 91's theres a little hole that has to be cut bigger to get the light to fit, same with the mounting holes have to be re drilled.

those are PIAA FR-S gunmetal metallic 17". they dont make them anymore but you should be able to find a set for a high price. i got a really good deal on mine.
