HLA checking

Post by BSOD2600 »

After reading the FSM for inspection / replacement of the HLA's, it seems too easy. One thing I've learned from my car, is that 'simple' little tasks are ALWAYS filled with 'gotchas', often not documented.

1) I don't need to drain the oil to remove the rocker covers, right?
2) Really one can simply push in the top of the HLA to test if they're hard/soft?
3) I only need to loosen the bolts on the valve rocker assembly to release/remove the HLA's?
4) 12 N-m torque (for the rocker assembly bolts) is just basically finger tight? I don't have a wrench which goes that low.

Anything else the FSM doesn't cover?

Yea, don't drain the oil

Only for the intake because they are singles. The exhaust has two valves per cam lobe so it's a little tougher to see if one needs to be bleeded out if the other doesn't.

Yup. take the eight bolts out evenly. The center bolts on the rocker ends are to keep the ends on the rod.

Yes 12 N/m or 9 ft/lb or if you have an inch pound torque wrench 108 in/lb. If you are worried about the spec find an in/lb wrench.
