Load reading from my B10 Scan Tool

Post by Rhinoculips »

I am not sure where exactly to post this, so I will start here.

I have an '91 EJ22 in my VW Vanagon. Using Vikash's B10 Scan Tool, it shows all parameters are in good order except for the Load. During hot idle (750 rpms) the load value is in the high 30's to lower 40's. When climbing a mtn pass the load value goes up to 90+ From what I understand the load value should be in the teens or maybe low 20's at hot idle.

Any ideas what I might look for to get this back into range?

What exactly is the load value anyway?

Many thanks!

750 rpm is actually pretty normal for the engine. I *just* got back from doing data logging with mine (revtronix stage 2 chip ;)). Happened to log everything for a few second while idle. My load was around 0.08% and idle rpm ~750.

It's my understanding that load is well, how much work/strain the engine is under. The ECU parameter range for this is 0 to 255 (which is then converted to percent, I believe with B10scan).

sorry, no idea offhand what things the ECU takes into consideration for this. You might look through the FSM scans in the electrical sections to see if some of the select monitor troubleshooting sections talk about the load, etc. These are posted in the 'Stuff you need to know' sub-forum.
