Dead Battery...

Post by Brian White »

Well, my battery died. I'm 95% sure it's the battery.
I can hear the starter motor turn over, but it'll
only turn over once and then dead silence. If the car
gets jumped, it runs fine. If I get in the car and
turn on the stereo, the presets are gone (no power)
and it'll only play for about 20 seconds and then it
shuts off. This leads me to believe it's the battery.
I replaced the alternator a few months ago, so that's
not the problem. Anyways, any suggestions on
batteries? I don't want to spend a ton of cash, but
I'd like something decent. The only battery I've
heard of as being an improvement is the Optima
batteries, but they seem kinda pricey. So
guys(gals?)...any thoughts?

-Brian

I'd also like to thank everyone on this list. I've
gained more knowledge about turbo cars from this list
in a few months than I have driving my car for close
to six years. I just wish I found it sooner. Thanks guys.

Dead Battery...

In the case of a battery, you get what you pay for
with Optima. I have a "red top" Optima battery. I
think I paid around $135 for it at a batteries store
in Colorado. They're out of Aurora, CO. There is a
long life for this battery and it can be drained
without adversely affecting its performance. As the
type is a closed cell, it won't leak, and can be
stored upside down if you had a mind to. They have
applications for marine, rv, and a "yellow top" which
is recommmended if you have a heavy draw, like from a
stereo with amps. I know of another battery made by
Pro Comp (a four-wheeling brand) and I think
Interstate Battery sells a quality battery. Hopefully
that is of some insight.

The Optima batteries are very good I just sold a Subaru Brat with a
red-top Optima that was 11 years old. You might check dealers for one
that has been used a bit or RV dealers seem to come up with them at
times. In Denver Cherokee RV parts usually has a few for $35-40.
