Not hard. Pull the engine out. Sit it on a bench with the back facing you and pull off the pressure plate and it all falls out. Make sure to make the tool to aline the cluch back up. You should be able to buy them but I have not seen one yet.

If it is a turbo transmission. I may miss a something cuz its been 6 or 7
months since Ive done it.
Go to Subaru dealer and get 2 crush pins for the halfshaft (They are really
cheap)
disconnect the battery (actually important)
Remove the rear driveshaft
remove the 2 pins in the half shafts (you need a small drift punch or equiv)
unbolt the front suspension bolts, tilt them outwards allowing the
halfshafts to come off the transmission
unbolt and remove the starter
using and allen key, remove bolt thing off of clutch fork locater
remove pin from clutch fork using a small bolt that screws in.
unbolt the transmision
unbolt the shifter linkage (only what you need to unbolt)
get a jack under the transmission
unbolt the rear crossmember from the car (4 bolts)
drop the transmission
unbolt and remove the clutch
replace the pilot bearing
install clutch
pop clutch "puller" into clutch
now for the hard part...
install transmission
lift transmission into place and slide forward (you wont get it all the way
in..)
put clutch fork back into place but dont tighten up the locater pin the
clucth for will fit over the clutch "puller" you may have to rotate the
"puller" to be in the right directon but you need to do this before you get
to far along installing the transmission.
put the starter bolt into place and tighten up a bit
put other top bolt in place on other side and tighten up a bit.
tighten both side slowly and see if the transmission is going in square,
DONT overdo it.
you may have to back out the tranny and rotate the spline a bit and try
again
do it again...
Once you have it going in all the way, finish putting all the bolts on.
re-bolt rear crossmember
remove starter bolt and install starter, rebolt into place
install halfshafts and rebolt the suspension
finish the rest of the items..
Did I miss anything?
any other pointers or tricks?
The first time I did this was when I found this forum in the first place. It
took me about 6 or 8 hours to do it cuz I really didnt know what I was
doing. The service manual sucks regarding this.

What's the best to pull. Engine or gearbox when replacing the clutch. I
would like to pull the engine so I can do the plugs and check any gaskets.

Best/easiest to just pull the engine. Don't try and pull the box and
not the motor!! It SUCKS
Shouldn't take too long to do either, it's pretty simple if you can
pull the motor.

Well what a week it has been. It has been 1 week since I have had the car on the road now and it is shiting me. Last Wensday I put the car in to have a new pipe made between the turbo and the intercooler. They ordered the wrong size pipe for the first day and got the right size pipe in the next day. Got the car back on Thursday and by this time the clutch is rat shit. That’s alright because I hade intendered to do the clutch starting Friday afternoon. I tolk off for work on Friday morning, clutch sliping but ok. By the time I get to my 15 min stint at 130km/h its time to pull over and call for help. That’s ok because I was about 1 km to were I was doing the clutch anyway. Call work and ask if the ute could give me a toe to were we are doing the clutch. No worries get there and off to work. Start pulling the engine out Friday afternoon about 4pm knock off at 9pm (did not have a 10mm allan key. Get there Saturday morning about 8am and need the flywheel off by 10am max to get it machined. 11am comes around no go. We went up to pick the clutch kit up get back have lunch 1pm the engine is finally out. There’s a heat sheild under the turbo that is a real bitch. There is clutch fibre’s everwear. Pull the preasure plate off and the flywheel had shit it self big time. Cracks that a butter knife would fit in. Throw it away and get another one was the verdict. Sunday can’t do a thing because no were is opened. Monday it just so happens the my girl friends brother in law is going to Sydney. I asked if he had time to drop into MRT to get a flywheel. No worries got it (lightened by the way). Tuesday (today) drop the flywheel off to be machined got it back and put it on the engine. Started working on the car at 4pm got the engine in and that was it for me 8pm comes and I’m off home. Saturday it will be on the road again and I can’t wait. I will work on it a little after work but don’t really want to take it out at night after it is fixed. Theres nothing worse than breaking done at night. So Saturdays the big day and I can’t wait so hurry up weekend.

Clutch
I did weigh mine it is chromoly and weighs 12.5 lb and with a heavy
duty pressure plate it does force a person to pay attention when
starting off but it does rev faster and seems to shift a bit better.
We weighed a stock flywheel and it was 21.5 lb.
