Vehicle weight

Post by aldad138 »

Hello- I know I am not the brightest guy in the world, but once and
for all can anyone tell me the specific difference between the curb
weight of my Wagon and the Gross Vehicle Weight. There is a 1380 LB
difference and though I think someone explained the reason for the two
different weights, I can't remember it.

Alex

Vehicle weight

Post by Josh Colombo »

Curb weight is the weight of the vehicle with no fluids in it....no
passengers, just the car like it is from the factory.

Gross vehicle weight is the weight of the car with the max amount of
fuel and passengers and such. I'm not sure what the weight of the
passengers they use....but yeah it's quite a bit more.

To give you an idea.....

My 90 legacy sedan has a curb weight of 2750 lbs

I went to some truck scales and weighed the car to get an exact weight.

I have a speaker box in the back.....so that's probably about 50-75 lbs
or so....and some other stuff....but nothing more then 150 lbs of extra
weight compared to one that has nothing in it.

These are the weights I got

Empty of fuel: 3080 lbs
1/2~3/4 fuel: 3140 lbs
Full of fuel: 3160 lbs

Hope that helps

Josh
