Drivetrain Jerk

Post by FREDERICK.WHITMORE@CN.CA »

Hello Guys,

My question is regarding the jerking when I take my foot off the gas with my
manual transmission left in gear and also when I re-engage after gearing down.
I can also see my gear shift lever shake a bit whenever I do this. This
makes me want to depress the clutch everytime I slow down as it can get very
annoying after a lot of city driving. I'm inclinded to think this is just the
way the AWD subaru's are since I've driven an Impreza RS which kind of does
the same thing albeit less intrusive. Do you guys have this same problem? I
was wondering if it could be that my engine, or transmission mounts (I know
the tranny mount it is NOT broken) are worn out. I have a '92 Legacy Turbo
with 115,000 km of city driving.

Thanks for the help,

Fred

I can almost guarantee that the transmission mount is in bad shape,
possibly not torn, but not doing very good at all.

I recently replaced my engine and trans mounts with the STI parts,
and while i did get a little more noise through the chassis, the car
feel SOLID.

Also check the mount that is on top of the engine. Mine was missing a bolt, replaced it and no more jurk. More than likely it will be the mounts are in bad shape but check to see if everything is there and done up properly.
