Best option for engine build - 3 options
I have 3 directions I am considering for my future engine build and need some help to choose the best route. All 3 options are for different short block builds and will include the ej20h dohc heads.
Option 1 - ej22t with phase1 ej25 crank and forged rods (if I can find any) combined with weisco 2.35L stroker pistons
Option 2 - ej22t with Sti crank and rods (if I can find a way to make it fit - rear thrust bearing to center thrust bearing) along with the weisco 2.35L stroker pistons
Option 3 - ej257 short block (I can trade my ej22t short block for it) keeping stock Sti crank and rods but using some sort of aftermarket forged piston

Option 2 requires custom pistons. The "off-the-shelf" Wiescos require a 79mm crank w/ regular (longer) EJ25 rods. EJ255/257 (STI/EJ25turbo) rods are the same length as all 75mm stroke cranks (EJ18.EJ20,EJ22)
Using the Wiescos essentially makes option 1 and 2 the same build.
I say option 3. OR keep it a 2.2 liter motor and use non-stroker Wiescos and any STI forged rod.

I( have also been trying to research the difficulty of fitting the Sti crank in the 22t and found mixed results.
Some say you can just use the crank as is and move the thrust bearing to the center, others say its not possible at all. I would like to hear form anyone who has successfully done this and how you achieved it.

I can only say that I have personally seen 4 cranks. All phase 2 and ranging from a '01 RS to a '06 STI.
All were "rough cut" at the #3 thrust. None were finished good enough to use, all were too rough. none of them had enough material to polish the rough cut to a usable surface and still maintain proper thrust clearance. If you can find a oversize thrust bearing w/standard journal diameters, then it might work.
I had the EJ22T case machined for #5 thrust for $250. For me that was faster and easier than a possibly hopeless search.
What is clear is.....If this magical "dual thrust" EJ25 crank does exsist, it's a very very rare bird.
