I've got a 90 Legacy LS, auto(if that makes any difference). The
problem I am having is this: I am trying to swap out my stock stereo
for a newer one. I can get the entire radio out, but I cannot
disconnect the annena wire for the stereo. I have disconnected the
power wires and the speaker wires, but I cannot get the antenna, I
unscrewed the little screw right beneath the antenna cord that still
didn't help. If someone could please help me out I would appreciate
it very much. Thanks in advance.

You have to pull up the carpet and loosen a black clip on the driverside, just follow the antenna wire. it has a female connector burried under the carpet. You will need to go to Best Buy and buy a antenna extension to hook up your new one. I had the same problem when I put mine in.

First of all, that was very quick, thank you. Secondly, when I pull
up the carpet do I have to remove anyhting? Or will it just sort of
lift up. And what about the gear shifter? Do I have to remove
that? And one more important question. I was looking at
crutchfield, and it said that the space will need minor filing for
the cd player to fit. Is this true and if so how much is minor? BTW
I'm going with a single DIN CD player.

The spot where the antenna disconnects is just below where the plastic
trim that wraps from the center console.....on the drivers side. Just
sorta feel around in that vicinity, and follow the wire...you should see
or feel it.
As for the spacing. Yeah a single DIN will leave a little space, you
can do what I did, get a piece of black trim....standard stuff you can
get at any stereo shop for next to nothing.......cut it to fit....put it
below the radio.
I've got pics of mine on my site if you want to see

Well, you need a special carpet puller tool, or just break the piece and buy a new one. I wouldn't recomend that though as they are hard to find. you dont need to do anything with the gear shift, you only have to pull one carpet piece if you need end up doin that. I just used long needle nose pliers and managed to get it. You will need a piece of black or light grey plastic about an inch heigh, I mounted mine with electrical tap on the back of the trim, it can't be seen and it gives it some movement as to take the face place off and on. If you glue it, pressure to it might bust the piece off and you will too redo it. Good luck

My goodness you guys are on the ball. Okay so let me make sure I've
got everything correct. Pull back the carpet, follow the antenna
wire, take it out, put an extension in, and the I can put the carpet
back the same way it came out right? or will I have to take the
plastic moulding off then repostion it?

Okay I think I've got it now. I will try it tomorrow and hopefully I
wont break anything, heh. Thanks guys for responding and being so
quick about it. And Josh, I actually stubled onto your site before
coming here(along with tons of others). I don't really remember
which car was yours, but I think I liked it, site wasn't that bad
either

In Oz we had a base model that had a single din head unit and a1.5 din conpartment. Try your Subaru dealer, it was $78AUD. I have just put a piece of plastic there for the time being.
