Allright here’s how I done mine.
Parts you need to buy.
1 length of 80mm dia PVC pipe no shorter than 500mm in length.
1 90 degree & 1 135 degree bends to suit the pipe dia.
1 100mm down pipe bracket (the one that raps right around the pipe).
1 small pot of glue for PVC pipe
1 packet of 8mm bolts
1 small tube of loctite
Tools you will need.
Hack saw.
Drill and drill bits.
Spaners.
Screw drivers.
Half round file.
Flat file.
Marker pen.
Heat gun.
Jigsaw and blades to suit plastic.
Funnel.
Sanding paper. 1000 wet and dry. 3 sheets should be plenty
How to remove the old.
1. Remove the air filter box from under the bonnet.
2. Pull the air box apart removing the filter. You will notice a piece of rubber held in by a piece of aluminium held in with pop rivets. Drill these out and through it away leaving the air box.
3. Jack the car up at the front and place a chassis stand under the sway bar mount on the chassis.
4. Remove the front right hand side wheel.
5. Remove the clips that hold in the plastic guard. Turn the screw driver slowly and without any weight on them. This may take some time but persist. I only removed the one in front of the strut and bent the plastic back over the brake disc where it rested untill I was finished.
6. You should now be able to see the Snorkus. Remove this, study it for a while and say what in the f*&k did Subaru do this for. Simple noise, noise my arse my new pipe is as quite as the old.
7. Well buy now it time to make the new.
Making and installing the new.
1. Pick up the length of pipe and sit it on one end. With your heat gun in hand and your funnel sitting on the ground start to heat up one end of the pipe. You should only have to heat up about about 60mm or so. When the pipe becomes soft quickly place the end that you heated up over the funnel. Be careful not to go to quickly as it will crimple. Hold in place until it becomes hard again. You will notice that it will shrink the dia of the pipe a little but don’t worry. If you are not saticfied with what you have done heat it up again and it will go back to its original state and start again.
2. With your sand paper sand the end of the pipe until it becomes rounded. You should now have a smooth flowing intake. The reason I did this in the first place was so that if I made a mistake I could cut it off without wasting to much pipe.
3. With your 90 degree bend draw around it leaving a mark on the air box as close to the hole that was already there. With your jigsaw cut out the extra plastic and throw it away.
4. Install the botom part of the air box and with your marker mark the inner guard where the hole will be cut out. Remove the bottom part of the air box and enlarge the hole. It should only be a little bigger than what is already there. Don’t use your jigsaw for this as it will destroy something. Use your half round file to preform this operation and take it slow as there are wires on the other side.
5. With both holes enlarged make sure that they line up and the bend is a tight fit as this is one of you mounting positions as I could’nt find another.
6. Now with your length pipe cut two lengths of approx 200mm long. One length is to have the flared part on it. Glue the one that does’nt have the flare on it into one end of th 90 degree bend. The length of pipe should be now facing the ground at a 45 degree angle.
7. On the other end of the length you have just installed, place the 135 dergee bend. It should be facing the front of the car and be close to level at one end.
8. You should now be able to see what I’m on about.
9. Install the fared length of pipe. The flared end should be sitting just above and back from the front fog light.
10. With your down pipe braket place it around the flared piece of pipe. You will notice it does not fit, to big. Make it fit drilling a hole further done the bracket. One of the original holes and the one you just drilled should bolt together clamping the pipe. The other hole that is left will bolt to the car. You will have to bend and twist the braket to make it fit. You should be able to see a piece of metal in the guard you can bolt this to. It has a wiring harness on one side. Be careful not to drill into the harness. Loctite the bolts together.
11. Put your car back together and blast away.
I only have some photos of the parts and the flare at the time being. I can take more pictures and show you no problem at all. It’s the same old sarger your just get right into doing the work and forget all about the photos. Same thing happened when I did the clutch. How keen are you guys to get this done. I can take the picks this week end.
